Link to Word, PDF, TXT files??

Post by siringo »

Hi,
Haven't been in here for a while, it's great to see this amazing app growing still.

Anyway, I'm creating an Intranet for a client and I wanted to show them Serendipity. One of their requirements is to give staff easy access to common Word docs, PDF's, text files etc.

I tried using the Link List plugin and it looks great, but I can't get it to launch the document in anything, not even a browser (not sure if it should, but I'm kind of hoping..)

Anyway the client is a 'not for profit' organisation and I'll be running S9Y on a 'WAMP server on maybe an XP based PC running in a Windows server environment.

I'm not really expecting to be able to click a link to a Word doc and have the document open in Word, but it would be nice. Is there any way of doing that??

Many thanks in advance.
Thanks,

Matt.

Hi!

You could simply upload a Word/PDF File to your serendipity mediadatabase, then create a usual blog entry, click on the "Insert images" button to launch the mediadatabase insertion, pick your Word/PDF file, and then it will put a link into your blog entry.

You could add multiple links to a single blog entry, so there you could maintain a permanent linklist. Clicking on such a link in a browser will launch the associated application, so if someone has Word installed, it will open that file (you cannot save the file to something other than your harddrive then, though).

Garvin
