You can show avatars/gravatars/favatars/MyBlogLog (event plugin: Avatar Plugin) , you can show author images (event plug: User Profile), or you could show category images (no plugin required).

Incorrect - there are multiple choices available. You might need to apply some css rules to make any of these work, but I think you need to look at the plugins I mentioned, see which comes closest to your intention, and then ask any further questions to achieve your objective.

You even don't have to do anything at all.
Just install the userprofile-plugin and activate the possibilty to use the gravatar-service. Since every author has to enter an email-address, this service can be used to show the image of an author.

I'm using serendipity_event_userprofiles to insert an image of the author. You don't even need a gravatar; it just works. The gravatar service is nice for authors that you haven't uploaded images for, I must admit.

One of the things I never liked about the user profile plugin (unless this has changed since I last looked at it) was that images had to be named like the author and stored in the TEMPLATE folder.... the last place I want people messing around on a multi-author site is the template folder.

*sigh*

Just one more thing I'm going to be looking at... eventually. I figure the userprofiles plugin ought to provide profiles that the user can modify. Especially pictures. Maybe even "about" pages or something.

The user profiles does emit info in an author overview page.... I think it needs some work. let's knock out what is already on our respective to-do lists, and get to this one after the other loose ends are complete.
