Hi,
I'm using Serendipity 1.1.4 and it works great. But I've seen that the latest version would offer a lot of new functions. My main-problem is my template which I use now. Would it be possible to use my current template, update to 1.2 and still use my old template? Is there a mode where I can edit the bulletproof-template in the way I like but still use the old template for my visitors till the new template is reay for production use?
Greets and best regards,
Dawn

I am just basing this off what I've personally experienced...
I upgraded to 1.2 without doing much of anything. My template works just fine without converting it over or anything. I *believe* that the bulletproof theses are just themes to be used in the future to make theming easier.
Once again, I did not do anything to my theme to get 1.2 working. (I also ran the betas just fine)
If you are unsure, you can always install the script in a new directory and install your template there for testing. This is a little bit of work if you want to test all of your plugins as well, but if you are leery of any possible breaks it would be a great option for you.

Hi Chickens,
Thanks a lot for your answer. I'll try to upgrade too...

Your template should continue to function just fine in s9y v1.2. You seem to be using a modified version of the serendipity 3.0 template. FYI - there will be a "bulletproof version" of that template no later than s9y v1.3.
As far as modifying bulletproof for to suit your own tastes - the only way to do that without your users seeing it is to create your own localhost server using something like XAMPP - or to create a subdomain and install s9y there.

Hi!
Just to add to Don's statement:
Since that might not be what you want, there's yet another workaround. You can install the plugin "Extended properties/templates for categories". Create a new category in your blog, and add a posting in it. Then you can assign the bulletproof template to that specific category and adjust its theme options. Now you (and your visitiors) can preview the new layout if they view the category in your frontend.
Even more advanced, you can set the permissions ofthe category to be only vieweed by the administrator group, so that the category only gets displayed for you when you are logged in.Tricky, eh? You'll need to adust the configuration of the categories sidebar plugin as well to enablefetching privileges and show categories for the "currently logged in visitor", but it should work fine with that.
Of course, what Don pointed out might be more sophisticated and give you moreflexibility to test various plugins and other things locally on an independent blog setup.

Just to add to Don's statement:
What you can do is this: Install the "template chooser" EVENT plugin ( you don't need the sidebar template dropdown plugin!). Then you can open your blog via http://yourblog/index.php?user_template=XXX and replace "xxx" with 'bulletproof'. HOWEVER, you can only configure the bulletproof template options when that template is active. So to set the options you would temporarily need to enalbethe bulletproof template, save the options, then set another template as active. With the link above you can still see the bulletproof template with the options you last configured. As far as modifying bulletproof for to suit your own tastes - the only way to do that without your users seeing it is to create your own localhost server using something like XAMPP - or to create a subdomain and install s9y there.

@Don Chambers: Thanks a lot for the hint. Yepp, it's a modded Serendipity 3.0 Theme by Carl and again modded by me (some CSS fixes). Sounds great to know that there will be a bulletproof version of it. Can you tell me where I can see if it's out?
@garvinhicking: I think with your instructions it wouldn't be any problem to test this out. I've upgraded to S9Y 1.2 and it works great at the moment, but I think when the bulletproof version is out I'll need a possibility to try this out. I'll take a look at the plugin.
Greets and thanks again,
Dawn

Well, perhaps we can be persuaded to get it out sooner!!!! Let's see.... bidding starts at $US999.00 .... 1/3 to each Cologne, Eutin, and Chicago!!! LMAO!!! Just kidding!Dawn wrote:@Don Chambers: ....Sounds great to know that there will be a bulletproof version of it. Can you tell me where I can see if it's out?
I'm not really sure what the release schedule is for 1.3 just yet.... 1.2 has not even been out a month. Like Yellowled said, it will surely be announced both on the forum, as well as the s9y blog.

Sounds great
I don't want to stress you all as long as my current template works
But a bulletproof one (only the name still sounds good
) would be a future target for my blog...
