Where to install StatCounter code?

Where is the best place to install the StatCounter code? Currently I have it in the Html Nugget plugin but as it is an invisible counter it produces a lot of blank space.

(Sorry if this has been answered already but the search button gave me a 404.)

Which search button is giving you a 404 exactly?

The easiest way is to either use the HTML nugget like you already do, or edit the theme's "index.tpl" file with an editor and place the HTML code into that file.

Many thanks for quick reply. The 404 comes from "searching this forum" at the top of the page.

Ah, great. You can use the "search" link though in the top menu of this blog, that is the right link.
