Entry previews

Hi all.

Probably a newbie question here; my apologies if it's been answered elsewhere (though I've searched, but you can never tell if you're using the right keywords).

I've set up the Serendipity blog as a sub-section of another site. Ideally I'd like the front page of the main site to have a blog preview, listing the most recent 5 or so blog posts, with a small preview of the text beneath each linked entry.

Is there a simple method of achieving this? Or a not-so-simple one?

Yup, not sure if its an easy method, that depends on your level of confidence I suppose, try reading this. Another user followed some of these instructions recently and had some problems which were dealt with in this thread

That will start you off and actually get the recent entries into your main site, then you'll need to deal with the short description, which I suspect will require some changes to the recent entries plugin.
