Problem with saving a New Entry

Post by ali_zalzala »

I am new to the package, but managed to install it without errors.

However, saving a new entry comes back with the message "Serendipity is now saving your entry, creating trackbacks and performing possible XML-RPC calls. This may take a while..". Then it simply just stays there, and no entry is entered.

Help please

Below each entry, there are checkboxes for services you want to "ping" so they can link to your blog. If you uncheck these boxes, does the entry get published?

What plugins are you using, and what template?

Plugins: blog admin, calender, archives, categories. And default event plugins.

Tried several templates.

I can't remember if "Trackback Control" is a default event plugin. If not, could you install it? Then uncheck the "Send trackbacks to links found in entry" and all the "Announce Entries" checkboxes. (I know we've tried the announcement boxes before, but I had forgotten trackbacks, and I want to remove all of them.)

We've also seen this problem with cookies and sessions not enabled or configured incorrectly: http://www.s9y.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1491

I can not find "Trackback Control" is the list of event plugins (neither the default nor the installable list). Is something missing here?

Cookies are enabled on Safari, and I have also tried Firefox (both under OSX) and IE under WinXP, with the same outcome.

It's available from SPARTACUS. You can either install the SPARTACUS plugin (if your server supports outgoing HTTP connections and file saving), in which case Serendipity will automatically search the central library of all available plugins, or you can download it from spartacus.s9y.org and install it manually by FTPing the files into the plugins/ directory, at which point it will show up like any other installable plugin.

Thanks judebert. I installed the plugins as directed, but the problem is the same.

In one of the links on your earlier post, bigmix says "Setting up VirtualHost by adding Directory with AllowOverride All directive seem to work". Sounds like worth trying, but I do not have a clue how. There is a Manage directories link, but no mention there of a VirtualHost ?

Hi!

Can you try it with a different browser? Can you maybe view the source of the iframe where the "Serendipity is saving..." message appears and check if you see any PHP errors there? Also check your PHPs/Apache Errorlog, it might be that your PHP is configured to not display fatal errors, which you should then find in your errorlog.

Usually s9y can only hang at this place if your server is firewalled and not allow any outgoing connections. Does the same problem happen when you create a posting that does not contain any HTML markup (specifically no <a> tags!)?

Best regards,
Garvin

Thanks for jumping in, Garvin. I just got seriously stumped. Let's hope those logs show something useful!
