collapse comment tree

Post by Guest »

Maybe I'm missing something but I can seem to see a way to collapse the comments for an entry once they've been expanded...it seems that if I want to hide them again I have to go back out to the 'main' page of the blog. So, am I missing something?

If you click on the link "View" this link will change to "Hide", and clicking on it will hide the comment. At least for me in latest CVS versions, but I can't remember that this part of code has been changed since 0.7.1...?

Hmm...I don't see that and I'm using 0.7.1...can't upgrade at the moment for several reasons - at least not until until 0.8 is an honest-to-goodness stable release. ;)

So - I installed 0.8-alpha9 from s9y_200501141338.tar.gz on my test box today and still don't see what you're talking about. http://www.b-p-s.net/serendipity - this is just a test of features, so there's nothing there. In the main page, if I click the link for comments I still can't get them to go away in a quick, easy, and intuitive manner. I have no link called 'view' and no link called 'hide'.

Still feel like I'm missing something - or maybe Ijust need more sleep.

Oh, I misunderstood you. I was thinking you were talking about Admin Panel Comment Moderation.

What you are talking about is no "expansion" of the comments. It's a link to go to the page with the full entry and jump to the comment section there. On a full article view you always see the full comments, you cannot collapse them; this is quite usual for all blogs.

What you can do is to edit your Serendipity Configuration and enable the use of popup windows. Then the comments will be opened there.

Garvin

I know...but I had to ask. Pop-up windows aren't going to do it...I'm going to have to write something. ;)

While I'm on the subject of comments...you don't happen to have anything that paginates them, do you? You know - like how the main entries are paginated?

Thanks.

Hi!

Well, currently we do have no way of pagination. But with Serendipity 0.8 (using Smarty Templating) this could be done with simple Smarty Code and easier to patch.

If you get a patch up and working, you may want to share it with us? :-)

Will do. :) I'm actually in the process of writing a bunch of mods...the funny thing is its not even my blog - I just maintain it for this person.

I've not used Smarty or any other template engine for php, so it might take me a couple of days to figure it out.
