Embedding Fonts

Post by Ianardo »

I have a client that has requested that all headings/Titles should be in Tempus Sans.

I found a tutorial on embedding fonts at Webmonkey and it suggests using Webfontmaker or HexWeb Typograph. But I cannot find these programs anywhere! All the links I Google seem to be out of date.

I thought that if I did this I could put the code in a Head Nugget.

So, three questions:

1. Would putting the code into a Head Nugget work?
2. Where can I find these programs (Mac) or similar?
3. Is there a simpler way to do this in Serendipity?

Cheers
Ian

Hi!

Embedding fonts into webpages is not suggested. Most browsers don't really support it, it'S one hell of an activeX stuff mess.

I personaly have not yet seen a real webpage with embedded fonts at all. :)

But if it worked, you could make it with the head nugget, yes.

Best regards,
Garvin

Thanks Garvin

I just found out that Bitstream have discontinued Webfonts as it required a plugin download and wasn't cross-browser compatible.

Hi Ianado

you could try dynamic image replacement. There's an article/turorial here - A list apart - it's fairly straightforward.

I've also tried sifr which uses Flash but it's a bit more complex

Hi d_cee
I actually solved the major problem by using one of Carl's tutorials. Thanks for the link though, i'll take a look.
Have a look: http://www.thewoodsman.biz

Based on ceejay01 - i'm just starting on this site really so the template will probably change quite a lot.

Carl, if you're out there, how would you change the title graphic for multiple html nuggets so they're not all the same?

Hi Ianardo,
there`s a technique which is called dtr (dynamic text replacement).
I've included it in my blog for replacing some headers...
Its a java-script which will replace text with an generated png-file. You only need to tag the text which should be replaced an a ttf-file of your choice.
