Hi,
I want to update my s9y installation at transblawg.eu.
The FAQ says:
>>Before you continue the process, make sure that the PHP/Apache webserver is able to write to your serendipity_config_local.inc.php and .htaccess file, and that the directory templates_c/ exists and is writable. You can change permissions using chmod commands in your favourite FTP or SSH client.<<
Does that mean I change the permissions to allow 'Others' to write to those files? or what permissions do I have to give?
TIA
Margaret
Upgrade queries
Re: Upgrade queries
This sets the file and some directories to be writable by serendipity blog as needed for installation issues and/or uploads etc. Normally nothing to worry about.
A little bit more about permissions you can find here

Re: Upgrade queries
That much I understand, but my question is: what permissions do I need to set so that the php/apache wotsit can write?
Ian, in another thread you said I should upgrade to php 5, which I've done on the server (5.2.13), and that I should enter something in .htaccess, but I can't get into the latter - is it really necessary to change that?
Thanks,
Margaret

Re: Upgrade queries
Oh I just edited my previous post with some more information....
You need at least 775, or 777, which is world writable.
Well if you upgraded php on the server it should now run with php5, nothing else to change hopefully. Just check what the S9y login screen says: powered by serendipity 1.5.5 and PHP xxx.
Then you know definitely.
