I notice when I date an article to go up later, I see the pingomatic and sitemap alerts say SUBMITTED.
So is it up on Google Search immediately, and if someone clicks the link, they come to the site rather than the article and cant find it? How does that work?

Yeah I've noticed that too. Its a bug because these ping services check your site to verify that the page actually exists. When they see its not there they probably never add the link to their services.
