Hi!

I have an error, nothing seems to fix it, so I have come to the source!

This error is appearing on the frount page:

http://www.theconfessors.com/
Connection timed out
Notice: Connection timed out in /home/wwwthec/public_html/bundled-libs/PEAR.php on line 848

What to do?

Hi!

that means one of your plugins is trying to issue a network connection and fails.

Tell us the names of event and sidebar plugins you are using, one of them will need to be removed or altered.

Garvin

Well that fixed it, but I did not record the one that was the problem. I "fixed" it before I read your post. If it happens again I will let you know. Sorry...

what's the easiest way to get you a list of plugins? I've had the same time out problem over the last three days. I can't even get a list of updated plugins without it timing out .

Hi Michael!

If it's only happening recently, you might need to contact your web provider, he might have changed something in his firewall or routing.

routing to where?

Hi!

Routing to the internet - the sites that the plugins you're using connects to (might be google, xml-rpc services, flickr) - that depends on your used plugins.

Can you suggest a way to find out what site is causing the problem? If I tell them that some plugin is having trouble getting out to the internet I strongly suspect they'll just come back and ask me which one.

Hi!

That depends on where you get the PEAR.php error message - if you get it when viewing the list of plugins, check the spartacus plugin to see what mirror site it is set to. It should be set to either netmirror.org or SourceForge. In both cases your firewall and routing needs to ensure to be able to connect to those sites.

Garvin

Thanks Garvin.

Based on that, I'm guessing that the server can't get to netmirror.org. s9y reports the following:

Trying to open URL package_event_en.xml...
Connection timed out
Notice: Connection timed out in /home/dragon5/public_html/blog/bundled-libs/PEAR.php on line 848
Connection timed out

Hi!

If you'Ve configured netmirror.org as the spartacus mirror, then yes. Please ask your webprovider if he blocks the site through firewalling or routing.

I wish I could change that one setting and have s9y be "fixed". It appears that they've got a general routing problem that started this past Friday when an upstream provider went dark.

btw, is the following normal? I get 0 bytes when I change the source server to s9y

Trying to open URL package_event_en.xml...
Fetched 0 bytes from the URL above. Saving file as /home/dragon5/public_html/blog/templates_c/package_event_en.xml...
Data successfully fetched.

Hi!

Yes, only Sourceforge and netmirror are currently valid mirrors.

Turns out it was a routing problem on my hosts end. They were finally able to fix it and s9y is humming along now.
Thanks for your assistance Garvin.
