Disabling and REMOVING trackback links

I think what many of us are looking for is not a way to mask the problem, but a way to fully remove the trackback feature (short of us hacking the PHP code).

IMHO while there is merit to the feature, I would hazard a guess that it's widespread use is rather limited, and causes most of us more problems than anything (including having to constantly explain to users what trackbacks are and how to use them).

Note that I am aware of the method to disable trackbacks as stated in the FAQ:

In serendipity_config_local.inc.php file insert this line of Code somewhere before the closing ?> tag:
$serendipity['noautodiscovery'] = true;

However, I think we would all prefer a configuration setting to hide/reveal the trackback links altogether.

Hi!

Sadly, a config option is not the really adjust place for this, because showing trackback links is a template issue, so you'd need to edit your template for that.

Starting with serendipity 1.1, also templates can have specific options, so it would be nice to start modifying templates to support a config option to indicate whether to show or hide trackbacks...

Think the board got hacked. Had a password-input at first visit (pychoaktivherb or something). You have a look?

Yeah, think I choosed the wrong thread, simply searched for anything related to spam and oversaw the trackback, was in a hurry. I'm not referring to anything trackback-related, simply to the password-input I was confronted with.

Where exactly? Comment section, blog entry display, or what? Trackbacks might load avatars from the blog URL, which might spawn a password prompt.

No, not in my blog. In this board at the frontpage. As it seems I was the only one whom this occured it maybe simply was related to a connecntion-problem.
