Before FTP'ing the unzipped files to the server, can I delete all the template files except default? will the install still be successful?

(just for the sake of a quicker install)

Yeah, it won't hurt anything.

Also do not delete "carl_contest", which is the default theme. 'default' is still needed because of other files, though.
