Hi

I made my first category and then went to edit an old entry, adding this entry to the new category.

But when I click my new category it makes a 404

Does mean that categories only work to entries AFTER a category has been made?

What'S your URL? It might be that you enbaled "URL Rewriting" in your s9y configuration but your server does not support that. Try setting "URL Rewriting" to "NONE".

Yes I have enabled "URL Rewriting" and my server (Godaddy) does support it.

If Ichange "URL Rewriting" to "NONE" then the links I have in search engines will not work??

Also, my "feeds" directory is missing.

When I installed Serendipity it was in it own directory, but moved everything over to the root. Could that be the problem?

Did you set it to mod_rewrite or Apache Errorhandling? You might need to try the other option.

They will work, they will just not rank you as high as if you had URL Rewriting enabled.

This is only a virtual directory, it does not exist on the server. It is rewritten/redirected internally, when URL Rewriting is enabled.

Sorry, that can't be. Serendipity does neither need nor create a 'feeds' directory!

Sorry by "it" I had changed subject to Serendipity itself, not the feed directory anymore. I mean I used the default installation at www.m-ysit-e.com/serendipity/ and then manually moved it over to the root by FTP.

My whole set up seems a self inflicted mess, because I've been changing the .htaccess for the other non-blog data.

I am thinking of:-

1) Installing the back up plug-in
2) Back up
3) Delete Serendipity
4) Re-install
5) Apply the back up

In your experience, is this a good plan, with a good chance of success?

Hi!

Ah, if you moved things via FTP, did you follow our FAQ on how to move an installation? Especially you must not forget to copy over the .htaccess file and change path settings after the moving.

Actuall yyou should get everything to work without doing a backup etc.

If .htaccess exists, what does it contain? Maybe the path settings are simply wrong.
