Spartacus not working!

I tried to install a new sidebar plugin and I couldn't open the respective xml. I just upgraded, thinking that this was the problem... but I'm getting again, on netmirror.org:
XML Parsing Error: prefix not bound to a namespace
Location:
http://netmirror.org/mirror/serendipity ... bar_en.xml
Line Number 14, Column 3: <requirements:s9yVersion>0.8</requirements:s9yVersion>
On all the other sites, I am getting the message that the servers are busy.
For the event plugins, Spartacus works.
Did I do soemthing wrong or I need to wait until the server problem is solved?
Thank you,
Florina

Hi!
The XML-files usually are not meant for clicking in the browser, so its allright that you get this "namespace" error.
What exactly does s9y tell you when you install a new sidebar plugin?
Best regards,
Garvin

Hi,
I am clicking on the link "install a new sidebar plugin" and when I get to the following page, I am no longer getting the list of plugins, only this message;
Trying to open URL package_sidebar_en.xml...
Fetched 86812 bytes from the URL above. Saving file as /services/webpages/f/l/florinafabian.com/public/serendipity/templates_c/package_sidebar_en.xml...
Data successfully fetched.
I try to refresh the page but I'm not getting any list of plugins, like I used to.
I have no clue what's going on. It started to happen 2 days ago and not even the upgrade to the last version didn't help.
Thanks,
Florina

Hi!
Can you check the PHP/Apache error log of your provider?
The most probable way is that you are hitting your memory limit, PHP dies fatally, but your PHP seems to be configured to not display such fatal errors.

I get the same error, and it has worked before, same provider, same everything.
I've even used the safe_mode work around drawing the plugin folder to my desktop, delete it on the server, upload it to get the right ownership.
I use the beta 1.1 of 18th october 2006
btw downloading from spartacus directly is a painfully slooooooow proces.

SPARTACUS downloads work pretty quickly for me; perhaps there's a problem between your server and SPARTACUS. Or perhaps we have different definitions of "slow".
Whereas Serendipity itself interacts only minimally with the outside world, SPARTACUS interacts with outside servers AND the local server hard drive. Providers generally look on these actions as malicious viruses trying to take over the server. Sometimes they block or restrict what scripts can do.
The point is, our difference in speed could also be caused by server configurations. I'm getting back on the job of updating SPARTACUS to be a little more friendly about what it's doing and where it's encountering problems, so I hope to have something for you to download soon.

Judebert, remember modems?
That slow! And it still is, I could download
all of the plugins (from the link to a zipped file Garvin gave me*) in no time while Spartacus was grinding endlessly on one plugin, never succeeding to download it.
I am on an 8Mbit connection. On the same connection, same provider, etcetera, I have experienced a much faster Spartacus, so it is the usual problem, not having capacity enough for possible success and overload.

Yeah, that's pretty slow! I've still got a 14.4 modem somewhere from back when they were fast...
Since SPARTACUS works after the files are downloaded, it sounds like the problem is SPARTACUS's connection to the repository. You'd expect it to be nice and fast, or completely blocked. (I suppose you could do bandwidth shaping, but really, this configuration would be extreme.)
Does SPARTACUS ever succeed, even for one file? If so, the connection is slow, and you might want to talk to the server admin to see if he knows why. If not, then the server is probably blocking connections, and it's taking SPARTACUS forever to time out.

Oh, no, I can tell the difference between a time out and a slow (or overloaded) connection, I am not a complete...
... well, never mind, I think it's just pure overload - since Spartacus is slow after the files are downloaded as well.
I can get all the files in no time. Spartacus is a smart idea, if there wasn't a thing called safe_mode, and if it worked.

Sorry; didn't mean to sound offensive. Consider the above comment to be for others who will read the thread and don't know the difference.
I've got a new version of SPARTACUS that notifies the user about firewalls. I wonder if there's some way I can make it detect connection speed, too.

Hi,
I am the one who started thgis topic. I checked with the webmaster. It appears that there's nothing wrong with the hosting provider.
Is there anything else we can think of? The problem is that, even if I install the plugins manually, they are still not displayed, in the administration panel, like they used to... with or without Spartacus.
Thanks,

Hi!
Can you ask your server provider if your error log is showing fatal PHP errors?
How does a screenshot of your Plugin installation page look like? How do you install them manually exactly, and where do you click on exactly?
Best regards,
Garvin
