EMOTICONS - ready for s9y

Hi,

well, to be honest, I always found the smilies coming with s9y not very attractive. So I searched a while in the web and ended up with two ready-made iconsets for Serendipity.

You can see and download them at: http://www.tomscorner.at/static/emoticons

Please give me feedback what you think about.

Regards, Thomas

They are sooo cool. What's their license?

Hi,

for both there's no license information available to be honest.

Gold1 is created from emoticons available at http://www.batkhela.com/msn/msn-6-emoticons.shtml.
Gold2 consists of the smileys available at http://www.penthesilea.ch/yabb-smiley-sets/

For Gold2 I have at least a name who created them. His name is Joseph Fung but I found no further informations of him.

Well, for bundling the files with Serendipity, they'd need to be BSD-license compatible. That was our main problem why we currently have the "ugly" smilies. But since you offer the files, I hope users will easily spot them and download them :)

Garvin.

Hi,

well, currently I contacted both providers of the icon sets and lets see what they answer. But from my point of view it shouldn't be a problem to include them into s9y. I don't think that the designers interests may conflict with the license of s9y.

Basically, the license of Serendipity says, you can do whatever you want with it. If the icon set is part of it, any user may sell the icons for any amount of money. Some people have a problem with sharing so much, so if the authors want to retain any kind of control over commercial redistribution, they probably won't allow it.

Garvin.

Actually I'd hold it so that I provide the users with the sets as long as I can. Use at your own risk. ;)

But you could place a link to the page I provide at the themes page or whereever.

Okay, I think we're going to do this, unless the original authors tell you its okay if we bundle it :)

The themes page is currently down, so I hope Jannis is soon going to fix it. :-)

Garvin.

It might be that they're used in IPB as well but actually I didn't find them there. I got those two sets from two different sources.

Just installed s9y two days ago.. And it's great!

And I love smileys  So I looked around and found some emoticons with an acceptable license ("use as you wish, repack with link to author") on http://www.mazeguy.net

I've just finised packing a big set of emoticons together, mostly from that website, some from others, all free to use AFIK.. It's ready to use with S9y (bugs uknown;))...
