Feedburner and Categories

Post by robw »

Hi,

I am playing around with Feedburner - and have set the Syndication Plugin to point to my Feedburner feed - but am a little confused as to how to get the best out of this.

If I set Feedburner to force, then this seems to seamlessly divert the feeds to the feedburner feed - the downside is that none of the category feeds works any more - they all just go to the main feed.

But if I set Feedburner to Yes, then this just seems to add a Feedburner RSS option to the Syndication box. So why would anyone select this feed over any other? (presumably feedburner stats would be wrong, as people are not channeled via this service).

Is there a way to force redirection of the main feeds, so that people use the standard Feed URL (in case we ever turn Feedburner off), but leave the category feeds as they are?

How are others using this functionality?

Cheers

Hi!

In recent SVN snapshots of 1.1, the feedburner diversion has been changed to not divert category feeds.

The problem is that for each category feed you'd need a seperate feedburner ID. This is both a bit uncomfortable as well as unhandy to configure.

Preferably when you use feedburner you might want to disable all other syndication options for the sidebar.

(For my own blog I am using the current 1.1 beavhoir with forced feeds)

Hi Garvin,

In recent SVN snapshots of 1.1, the feedburner diversion has been changed to not divert category feeds.

That is excellent news - I will wait for the 1.1 release and implement then.

The problem is that for each category feed you'd need a seperate feedburner ID. This is both a bit uncomfortable as well as unhandy to configure.

One of my sites has around 40 categories, so this would definitely be a hassle to configure  Glad not to have the option!

Cheers
Rob

PS - Thanks for your help, as always! :D
