Autosave

Post by doomsayer »

I have to say that this is the coolest plugin ever. I couldn't be more excited about it. However I have a problem.
When I tried it in Mozilla Firefox 1.5.0.1 I get this error:
The ajax call failed ! [TypeError: form has no properties]

I tried it in Internet Explorer 6.0 and it works just fine. (I am ashamed to admit I used IE). So I know that there is a good chance that it is a problem with something I did to Firefox, but I am looking for ideas.

I am hopeful that the use of this plugin will get my wife to start blogging again. She got mad because she kept losing entries.

Great to hear that! Maybe you could give Jay some feedback on his blog so that he gets notified? I don't know if he's reading this forum!

Best regards,
Garvin

I would love to comment on Jay's blog, but he's got the comments on his blog blocked.
That is why I posted here. I just hate having to use I.E. to use this really awesome plugin.

Hi doomsayer,
I already had some feedback and modified the plugin. I updated the archive on my blog (http://jay.bertrand.free.fr/blog/upload ... plugin.tgz) but this new version also needs a new htmlarea.js (also in the .tgz). Could you please test it and give me some feedback ? TIA.

Firefox has a really weird behaviour : i run exactly the same version (1.5.0.1) and have no problems with s9y 0.9.1 and 1.0-b2 ?!? stupid javascript :x

Regards,
Jay

New Version

Post by doomsayer »

The new version still works just fine in I.E. but I still get the same error:
The ajax call failed ! [TypeError: form has no properties]
when I try from Firefox. I think your work is fantastic anyway.

Somehow I am hitting the spam filter on your blog each time I try to respond there.

Damned ! I will work on it, I won't let IE work fine and FF not  . That's pretty amazing how FF's behaviour vary depending on the OS  I run FF 1.5.0.1 on xp with s9y 0.9.1 and 1.0-b2 and no problem until now.

Ok, I misconfigured the spam plugin. Comments are now re-opened ;-)

I just installed the autosave plugin and encountered the same error doomsayer reported. I am using Firefox 1.5.0.4 on Linux.

I think I've tracked the issue to whether the form serendipityEntry is labeled using the 'name' or 'id' property; and that appears to depend on how you set "Force XHTML 1.1 compliance" in the serendipity configuration menu.

As long as Force XHTML... is off (and the form is labeled using 'name'), the plugin fails. Since I turned on Force XHTML 1.1, the form is labeled using 'id' and the autosave plugin works fine.

Hi!

Thanks for that report! Actually, in Serendipity 1.1 this XHTML compliance is turned on and the option was removed, so it should go away automatically in the future :)

Best regards,
Garvin

JS errors

Post by kinoli »

Hi, I am getting some JS errors in the html editor. I read that their is a new htmlarea.js file in the tgz file. It must have been removed at some point because I'm not seeing it. Can you let me know where I might find it? thanks.

Hi!

Which serendipity version are you using? Which JS errors do you get? You actually don't need any updated htmlarea.js file, the one shipped with serendipity works fine.

Garvin

autosave js erros

Post by kinoli »

The version of Serindipity I installed was from this file... serendipity-1.0-beta2.tar.gz

when i activate autosave plugin and then navigate to "new entry" upon loading I get these error...

line 863 - 'undefined' is null or not an object

upon clicking in the wysiwyg editor i get ...

line 1300 - 'Object doesn't support this property or method

I am using the htmlarea wysiwyg editor. It makes it useless to use because of these erros, so I have to turn autosave off until i can get this resolved. Any help would be appreciated.

thanks in advance.

Hi!

I would suggest you to upgrade to serendipity 1.0 - I think the serendipity_editor.js file has been updated there to accomodate problems.

Also, are you using the most recent version of the autosave plugin?

Best regards,
Garvin

I have a small problem with this plugin. If i have saved the entry, then i wanna edit it back later, the autosave won't work, it says 'autosave failed'. But if i am editing a new entry, it will work just fine.

Please advice. thanks in advance :)
