The theme seems to be doing just what it should - a popup at the top notifying that the email notifications are being sent.
There must already be a trigger - because it causes that popup.
So, capturing that trigger then sending the emails from the subscription file seems to be the only missing piece - I can't imagine any reason for it to be more visible.
As noted, there's a Stable, Beta, No menu already in place - for Admins who don't want to send notifications, or who want to help at the Beta stage.
To expand things, because so many younger people dislike email, the notification feature might later be expanded to include other social media platforms.
I'm not certain but I thought there already was an option in the Subscription plugin that allowed a user to opt-out of notifications.

I just observed something else I hadn't previously noticed ...

When a New Entry is Saved - there are popups that seek and fail to find Trackbacks.

I presume that this showed up now because I just included some quoted text with several embedded URLS, and included an additional URL. I'd not previously done either.

This may also be a bug - since I recall toggling trackbacks OFF. (I believe that was per your recommendation, but it may have been in the Serendipity info text.)

Hey David, I think you disabled incoming trackbacks, not outgoing. Those can also be disabled, but only with the plugin "Trackback-Control".

OK, thanks - I thought that I'd disabled them, incoming and outgoing, at the same time.
So, that additional plugin would prevent Serendipity from alerting the source URL that I cited their URL?
Since Trackbacks are discouraged, due to a reported pattern of abuse, wouldn't they have incoming Trackbacks disabled as well?
Has Serendipity considered disabling Trackbacks by default, with a plugin used to activate them?
I'm learning ...
Thanks.

So, I wouldn't even agree that trackpacks are discouraged. Linkback mechanisms like Trackbacks, Pingbacks and Webmentions are what make a blog a blog, instead of a regular site, together with comments. Though it sounds like a good idea to check whether the default spam settings for trackbacks can be made stricter.

For the plugin, yes, it has the option to disable outgoing trackbacks when saving entries. It adds a checkbox for that to the entry editor, and you can disable them by default in the plugin settings.

I only intend to share the content with those who choose to subscribe (anyone who stumbles on to the content via a Search is welcome to view it). I prefer word-of-mouth referrals vs a wide broadcast - so that I'm not having to manage people looking for an argument.

OK, so it's a matter of filtering vs eliminating them?

I read multiple sites, when I Searched on Trackbacks, that discouraged them.

BTW: This site claims "In our experience, 99% of all trackbacks and pingbacks are spam. This is the easiest way for spammers to get a backlink from your site."

I sure appreciate you explaining things. (I had a small blog several years ago but never did much with it and was too busy with my job and family to invest the time to learn about it.)

I'd say so. My position is that trackacks are too valuable to get rid of them. Especially of you have a network of blogs that sometimes references each other, which is how blogging should be imho.
