You might check for a newer template version. Yours is 1 year old. Perhaps this part is missing ... (somehow) in the comments.tpl(?)
Else check you personal comment options (but I don't think there is an option like this).

I already checked. BTW: 1.7 RC3 should contain a (close to) recent version of s9y-2k11, shouldn't it?

Yes, and it does. But if you had the dev version of 2k11 installed (the one from my 2k11 GitHub repo), you need to switch to the version bundled with the s9y core to use that. You should have two entries for 2k11 in your theme list if you used the dev version before.

I would also recommend cleaning out templates_c/.

Good plan ... I updated the wrong directory

We really should find out, why a templates_c cleanup can tear down your server for a while...
Cleaning should not take so long and should not take all ressources, IMO.

Cleaning is done in the moment, but the build takes a lot of time.

I now restore templates_c from a backup.

Maybe it is because a lot of comments and the gravatars of the commenters?

Those are just temporary cache files which will be created again anyway. I see no reason why one would want to restore those from a backup.

I am still not really satisfied about that cleanup/recompile resource exhaust issue.
We should find out why this happened in your case. For this you'll need to investigate you backup templates_c dir, to find out its size and how many files and dirs of the current template and possible others (never cleaned up) you have. Probably the age will also be interesting...

I have a personal interest on this, because the Dashboard (poc) and the autoupdater Plugin make use of cleaning-up the compile dir, which triggers a recompile. In special for the last I have an update in the pipe, which will make the upgrade process a bit more verbose. Having such an issue with cleanup/recompile is bad to have...

By thinking about this, I found an error on deimhart.net (only!), when pointing to the archive summary page by

. All other archives/*.* page requests work well.

Fatal error: Uncaught exception 'ErrorException' with message
'Serendipity error: touch(): Utime failed: Permission denied' in ...

by used touch() function in some Smarty internals. This tells us, that there is an issue with the owner or the file permissions for some or all files and/or dirs in templates_c.

So recommended for everyone with 1.7, is a correct (servers) owner/permission set in templates_c!

PS. I would not know why it should..., but I'd wish this was the reason for the exhaust issue...!

Unfortunately I did not copy the dates properly.

What I found out, that it took a very long time to fill serendipity_event_avatar (inside template_c).

I waited over the weekend as I wanted an answer about that touch() usage from Smarty devs.

Where do these /cache_* dirs come from?

Having 600.0kiB for the /2k11_fork should not twist down your servers performance, so the issue must relay on the gravatar plugin and perhaps these cache_* dirs? All together they are huge....

Could that be the solution to exclude these dirs from CompileCleanUp somehow...?
