Since I had this problem for a few years, but didn't bother much with it and today I finally spent some time to solve it and - fortunately - I finally did, I thought I have to share this with you. So... here's how to hack back into your Serendipity blog!
0. The setup should be like this - at least that's how it was in my case - for some reason, you have no idea about your password, but you're sure it was something way too long to decrypt. On the other hand, you have full access to the Serendipity database.
1. Open up the database and go to serendipity_authors, look for your user - probably there's only one, anyway - it all should look like this - http://prntscr.com/xtzne (that is the email address I use with my PayPal account that you'll use to send donations, thank you!)
2. Don't bother to decrypt that password, just go to http://www.md5decrypt.org/ aaaand...
3. Enter your new password in the field to the left, press the MD5 Encrypt button and you'll get your new MD5-encrypted password - http://prntscr.com/xu073
4. Add your encrypted password to the database, save it, login to your Serendipity blog - ta-taaaa!
P.S. In my case, it was a very old 1.4.1 setup. If you're using a recent setup that has SHA1 encryption, you should use this tool to encrypt your new password - http://darrenfauth.com/generators/sha1.
I hope all this is useful to someone...

Or you do it the easy way and just use the fixlogin.php which is posted several times in this forum
