I would have 2 possible improvements for serendipity_event_dashboard...

1. If no update for s9y is available, there could be a message
current final/beta on server: 1.5.5
your installation is up-to-date, no update needed
because i am always confused by not seeing anything.

2. The spartacus-update-check should be included into dashboard, so we don't need to go into plugin-section to check for sidebar- or event-updates.

You'll most likely want to report these to the http://board.s9y.org/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=17274 "Auto-Updater" thread in the "Upcoming Serendipity features" forum since the two plugins are now more or less connected.

No, please not. That is pure dashboard-functionality. The autoupdater won't work without the dashboardplugin, but they are not merged. Also, i don't intend to adopt the dashpord-plugin atm, and i am not sure those suggestions would be seen there.

Hi!

Hm, I'm also not yet decided whether always having output there is a good idea; it crowds the screen for actually no information. I mean, your browser or other applications also do not bug you with information that it's up to date?

I'm open to discussion of course, what do you others think?

Regards,
Garvin

Well, normaly, I would say: its up to the user to keep self installed systems up to date, but in case of real vulnerables this isn't good, since Serendipity is known a long time as very stable and not buggy. This is why there are lots of old versions running, without keeping contact to the forum or the s9y-blog. Even now there are users with actual questions in the forum, which did not upgrade to 1.5.5....
I think to keep this good reputation in future, it is at least a must to have a buildin notifier, as I recommended before.

Think you misunderstood the question :)

Bernd suggested to use the notifier of the dashboardplugin to print a notification like "Your version of serendipity is up-to-date".
