Questions from an old dumb guy

Post by Peachman »

I downloaded the upgrade software, but I do not understand the upgrade procedure. When i installed this bad boy, all I had to do was click a few buttons - but this is different.

I have this at the bottom of my main page: Powered by Serendipity 0.8.2 and PHP 4.3.11

I downloaded the Serendipity-1.1.3.tar

I was hoping the upgrade would be simple.

Is there a tutor that will walk me through the upgrade like I'm a four year old?

Thanks

Make sure the file serendipity_config.inc.php and the folder templates_c/ are both writable. You can determine this through your FTP client by looking at the properties of those two things. The CHMOD permissions should at least be set to 644.

Hope that helps! I'll be happy to assist or explain further if you need help.

Huh?

Light years ahead of me, sir. I not only don't know what those files are, I have no idea where to look!

A four-year-old, really.

Is there a Moderator, or a guru out there that would like to provide me with an "upgrade service" for braggin rights? I could send you my password and access info to a trusted mentor.

I may possibly do it myself, if I had step by step instructions. I am good at following instructions.

I'm pretty sure Garvin and a few other people would vouch for me if I said I would update your installation myself without any malevolent intention. :)

I need to throw together some instructions for beginners anyway.. so perhaps by tomorrow I can have that done.

I'd vouch for azel. I've never seen her be malevolent. :D

I'd trust her with my blog.

Hi!

Sure, I'd also vouch for azel. She's been a tremendous help in the past. I would offer you to do the update as well, but I'm really heads-down in work (with s9y, so that's good, though *g*)...

Best regards,
Garvin
