I am have trouble getting new moved install working and would love some help on this
made a copy of old database (old configs)
updated to latest serendipity on new server (did an install) had to delete database tables to get the new ones to SQL ok
uploaded the template the old one was using
I have the error here
Warning: Smarty error: unable to read resource: "index.tpl" in /var/sites/d/domain.com/public_html/bundled-libs/Smarty/libs/Smarty.class.php on line 1093
I believe my path is right as I had other warnings that I got rid of using this path setting in the database directly /var/sites/d/domain.com/public_html/
Thanks for any help

Re: Trouble moving servers
Hi!
Hm, I wonder why you say "did an install"? The proper procedure would to first move your s9y install to the new server, so that everything is running. And only THEN you perform the upgrade. Doing it in one step can introduce very nasty errors.
I suggest you to clean out the new directory, re-upload your copy of the old files and database, modify your serendipity_config_local.inc.php file to point to the new database/usernames, then open your s9y admin page to enter the new and correct paths, and save. When this is all fine, simply upload the new s9y release over your old one.
Regards,
Garvin

Re: Trouble moving servers
Thanks for the ideas on helping with this
process:
started again (deleted files on server no change to database so it has also now a mirror of the old except for the connection paths which should be correct for this new setup)
uploaded mirror of old server
The problem now is that it is showing me the install screen, that config file doesn't seem to hold any config to me, at least non that pertains to the database connection...

Re: Trouble moving servers
I am getting closer , I think the new version has some config changes to serendipity_config in the database which makes it incompatible from what I can see. I have two databases my old one and the one I just did a fresh install from, so I'm trying to merge the two. Almost there just if I can get into the admin would be great, im blocked by 404 error
site.com/admin seems to be the requested url.

Re: Trouble moving servers
Here is a link to some upgrade info
http://www.s9y.org/203.html
So I should have been ok with the method I originally used and the admin should have made any changes to the DB.

Re: Trouble moving servers
I can see there are too many database changes so I will do an upgrade on my old system first.

Re: Trouble moving servers
Hi!
WHen after upload you see the installer, this means you did NOT copy over the serendipity_config_local.inc.php. That file is VITAL, and holds the credentials to connect to your (new) database!

Garvin
