Move Pictures to another category

Post by robert »

Hello,
as I made some defaults in uploading pictures in a category: It would be very useful to have the opportunity to move a picture/datafile from one category to another.

If I had overlooked it, is there an existent plugin?

Regards
Robert

I agree, I think that would be very useful. I neglected to setup my directories so I have a lot of pictures in the root and would like to move them elsewhere.

Sorry, I don't know what you mean with "picture/datafile" from one "category". The media manager does not support categories, only directories. Or do you mean the images that can be assigned to a category? Why do you want to move that? Just pick the new image location for the category after you have moved the media manager file?

Please describe in depth what you mean :)

Garvin

Sorry, it´s my bad english! But I try it again (for all englishmen ;-) in english.

With "categories" I meant "directories"

What I mean is:

I save (for example) a picture "cat.jpg" in the directory "Animals" and do this with some other files too. After a couple of days I see that the director "Animals" is to "full" and make a directory "cats" and another one "crocodiles". Nowadays I had to delete all files in "Animals" and to reimport it in "cats".
My wish is to go in MediaManager to "cat.jpg" and change the directory - so its moved "automatic" in the new directory.

I hope it´s now unterstandable.

Ah, okay, I see.

Well, one central problem with the media manager is that if you change file locations, your entries containing a link to the image will contain a broken link. There once was a plugin to only dynamically link images, but that plugin got lost and I can't find enough motivation to code it again.

Thus, the facilities to move/rename an image are currently very restricted.

However, if you don't care to get your hands dirty a bit, you can browse the serendipity_images table and there just change the "directory" column of your image to the new path and move the file via FTP. I know that's a bit boring, but it'll take us some time to implement this file moving...

Garvin

Thanks for the hint. By Adminsite it would be a little more comfortable ;) but when not, it´s ok.

Yes, it´s a problem that posted links are broken after moving the files. Virtual Links would be a great idea - but I understand, that you cann´t programm the whole universe ;-)
