Adsense
Hey there,
I'm looking to include google adsense text ads on my site. After using the HTML nugget plugin, under sidebar plugins, and pasting in the code generated by google, nothing appears. The ads are (as you know) targeted, i.e dynamic.
Has anyone run into this? Suggestions to get this going.
Thanks for any help provided.

I am having the exact same problem. I used the text option as described but either way, I get html in my sidebar which also throws off the entire formatting of my blog. I can't get my Google AdSense to work.

Or remove any linebreaks you paste into the htmlnugget so that the nl2br markup plugin won't transfer newlines to <br />.

I am not html savvy, but will see if I can figure out your instructions. I'm guessing you mean I need to take out anything that has br in it, right?

Terry - no, you should not remove <br /> from your input, as it won't supposedly contain <br />s. Instead you need to remove linebreaks/linefeeds from your input so that all the html code for adsense is on a single line.
But choosing the "Apply Markup Transformations: Yes / No" under the area for your adsense code should really work. Could you please post a screenshot of your configuration page where you enter the code?

Garvin

Once I get my Other Links plugin accepted into the Serendipity CVS My next project is to generate a Google AdSense plugin. I suspect That it will take me about a week of evenings to generate a beta.
If anyone wants a copy of my Other Links plugin before I am able to get it into CVS just leave a request in the comments of the post
This is my first contribution to an open project like this. If any one has any advice for posting my plugins please feel free to leave comments on that as well.

Justin,
thanks a lot for your help to contribute!
However the way I see it your plugin collides with the features provided in the plugin serendipity_event_linklist from additional_plugins CVS. I know that the maintainers of that plugin try to build a sidebar plugin which is a bit easier to handle than the current way of requiring the sidebar eventwrapper plugin.
On the other hand, their plugin has some cool other features like collapsible categories...
Maybe you could see how to interface your/their plugin with them and get in touch with the authors?
An Adsense-Plugin would also be much appreciated!
Regards and thanks,
Garvin

Garvin,
I was unaware of serendipity_event_linklist. I will check it out and see if I can extend it rather than creating a new plugin.
In the mean time, I received my AdSense welcome and will commence creating the AdSense plugin this evening.
Could you tell me, once I get it in beta, how do I get it accepted into the CVS?

You can post the code to me privately, announce it on our php-blog-devs Mailinglist or also put it here in the forums. Someone of the developers (probably me) will review the plugin and if it's basically alright we can either commit it for you to CVS, or if you like you can get a CVS account to develop plugins. If you want to have a CVS account, I just need to know your SourceForge username.

Garvin

Hallalujah for this topic!! LOL I've been trying for a week to get adsense on my page!! Hell..I even program!! Anyway...I simply did the plugin for html nugget, disabled the transformation and viola! Thanks!
I do have another question....whenever I or other people post the smilies, I get the ugly code after... i.e, style="display: inline; vertical-align: bottom;" class="emoticon" /> What am I doing wrong?
Thanks a ton!!

Jennifer, it just seems that you have installed the "Emoticon" Event Plugin twice. Go to the Plugin Config and remove one instance of it.

As you can see on the forums, many people do not understand how to disable the Markup Transformations, and they wonder why their JAvAscript code breaks.
Thus a Adsense plugin, which also lets you define all the Adsense options (display style, colors, ...) would be perfect for those users. Then they would not have to do anything else than enter thei Associate ID.
Regards,
Garvin

I have generated a quick proof of concept on my web site of the AdSense plugin. I think that I am going to have to make some major changes if I am going to be compliant with the Google AdSense Program Policies, namely:
If anyone has any other suggestions I am open to it.
I do not want to make a plugin that causes the users to have their accournts terminated. My thought is if I collect the same data Google collects, incuding user id and password. I can have the plugin loginto the site post the variables and then copy the html from the text area. If I can not find a way to comply with the policies it may be best to stick with the HTML nugget pluginCode Modification - Any AdSense ad code or search box code must be pasted directly into Web pages without modification. AdSense participants are not allowed to alter the ad code for any reason, include changing the ad layout, behavior, or delivery of ads.
If anyone has any other suggestions I am open to it.
