Adding Movies to posts??

Post by godfather »

I am using the latest beta.

I want to add videos. Now, is there an easy way to do this? I use imagemagick and when adding media, it seems to always require a little html editing in the post.

I want my wife to be able to do this EASILY, like the adding photos.
(Kudos in that department!!)

Is there a way to do this, similar to the process for adding pics?

-Side note.. Is there a way to set the defaults in the add medai dialog?

Thanks!!

You should be able to add ANY uploaded file to your posts. Videos and files are linked with a simple "a href", though. That should work, doesn't it?

And what defaults would you like to set in the media manager?

I am using Imagemagick.. (This is the root if the problem I think)

The media manager treats a movie as a picture.
1. If I use the "Use large image" choice, I get no link at all. Empty.
2. If I choose the thumbnail option I get a small Red X that is linked, but ugly. :)

Optimally if the media manager could handle linking to avi, wmv, mpg, etc, and allow you to choose what picture to link to the movie such as a movie icon or something it would be perfect!!

Hope this makes sense.

~John

Can you set the defaults in the media manager somewhere?

Godfather, thanks to your help I was able to find a bug in our latest beta5 release. In fact, non-image items were not inserted properly.

I committed a fix to CVS so that non-image files are now properly linked, without an <img> tag.

The CVS Snapshot of tomorrow should contain the fix, I'd be glad if you could check it out.
Can you set the defaults in the media manager somewhere?
I can only repeat what I first wrote: "And what defaults would you like to set in the media manager? "

Garvin,
That's awesome. I had noticed the issue with linking non-image files, just last night. I had planned to take a look at it today, but thankfully, I checked the forum first.

Now, I can spend some time implementing your Gallery how-to. Thanks for all your hard work.

I will try out the latest CVS later today and let you know how the movies are handled now. THANKS a ton for looking at this!

Media settings..
I ALWAYS use the following media settings:

1. Use thumbnail. (Again, I use imagemagick)
2. Top image alignment option. (others sometimes misalign things.)
3. Display it as a link. (Can you make this a popup window? That would be cool!)

Okay - but pay attention the fix will only be in the snapshot from tomorrow.

About the defaults: No, those settings are currently not remembered. I'll put it on our Todo list for Serendipity 0.9.

I installed today's, and saw no difference so I came back here.

Thanks for clarifying which it will be in. I will download it and let you know the out come! :)

I tried snapshot s9y_200504071337 and it worked wonderfully. While creating an entry, I added the AVI file I had uploaded. It didn't ask about thumbnails, alignment, etc., it just added it as a hyperlink as I would expect.

Thanks for your help Garvin.

Something that I have noticed. Maybe someone else who tries this snapshot can confirm.

When I create an entry with only a video attached, the link to the video is fine. When I create an entry, add a couple of photos (thumbnails with links), and then add a video, all links point to the video file.

I'll have a peek at the code to see if I notice anything. In the meantime, can anyone else replicate this?

I cannot reproduce this.

If I open the mediamanager link multiple times, the different links always get appended to the end of my blog entry. I then receive something like this:

Code: Select all

<img width='110' height='83' style="float: left; border: 0px; padding-left: 5px; padding-right: 5px;" src="/cvs/serendipity/serendipity_MERGE/uploads/temp/mec2.s9yThumb.jpg" alt="" /><a href='/cvs/serendipity/serendipity_MERGE/uploads/s9y_logo.png'><img width='80' height='80' style="float: left; border: 0px; padding-left: 5px; padding-right: 5px;" src="/cvs/serendipity/serendipity_MERGE/uploads/s9y_logo.s9yThumb.png" alt="" /></a><a href="/cvs/serendipity/serendipity_MERGE/uploads/clip31.mpg" title="clip31.mpg" target="_blank">clip31.mpg</a>
Which is what its supposed to look like. Please post what you get in your entry body here - and which browser you're using.

Garvin

Garvin,

The update works like a charm!! Sweet!

The only thing I would add now, if not real hard, would be a choice of displaying the link text (like it works now) or to choose an icon (jpg, gof, etc..)

Keep it up!!

I am using the htmlarea plugin on Firefox 1.0.2. With the WYSIWYG editor, I hadn't looked at the HTML source. When I did, it was a mess. In a nutshell, I somehow got an 'a href' linking to the video wrapped around images. I'm not sure how that happened, since I inserted the media one after the other, didn't move anything around, didn't make any edits, etc.

I created another entry with the same images and video link. This time, there was no 'a href' wrapping all the media. Everything looks as one would expect. Subsequent entries worked as well.

Two things that I learn from this exercise are:
1. Next time, I'll check my code before worrying about the s9y code.
2. Test, test, test. I should have tested what I thought was a problem more, before posting about it.

Thanks again for your help Garvin.

You're welcome!

It could very likely be that sometimes the WYSIWYG editor freaks up. Because the media manager link is insterted at cursor position, and if your cursor position is within a link, the described behaviour you outlined can show up. So you'll need to make sure you're at the end of your entry, or somewhere within text if you insert another image. :)

The WYSIWYG-Editor is sometimes really hard to cope with.
