combining external blogs

Post by sopi »

Hiya, gotta question, and can't get the search to help me :?

Okey, let's say i have 4 blogs, each on a different server, database and even host.
Now I want to make ONE blog, which is collecting all the blog entries, so I can search within all of them.

PLUS I don't want to have any double content (for better Google SEO)

I am looking for a blog software which can handle that, and would love if with serendipity i would have found my buddy ...

I would appreciate any kind of hint or help
thx for your patience

There are several blog systems that Serendipity can import from. If all you want to do is combine all the entries into one blog, Serendipity can do that. :)

thanks for the quick response
unfortunately thats not what i want to do.

some friends of mine and me are running seperate blogs on seperate servers, hosts and database (all running serendepity blogsoftware)

We want to create an all in one blog, so users can search in all blogs at once
BUT: everyone wants to keep their hosts+server+database+blog (that's a must)
AND: we HAVE TO prevent double content (since thats not good for google SEO)

If anybody has an idea, I would really really love to hear it ... if there exists another possibility (mb without serendipity), we would think about that too (although with tears)

sopi: I bet the best bet will be to aggregate the RSS feeds for each of the sites into one common location. I have no idea if s9y can do this with a plugin or not, but if you search around for a php rss aggregator you will probably find something that will do the trick.

You might take a glance through the plugins for s9y as there might be one that will do the trick. I do not know of one off the top of my head, but that does not mean much

Hi!

Exactly like chickens says: There is a serendipity plugin called "RSS Aggregator", with which you can fetch foreign entries for a single blog.

Pay attention that if the other 4 blogs you gather the postings from are not yours you need to ask the owners of the blog if you can use their entries.

thx for the responses!

well the content will be no problem, cause i will only use blogs from which I personally know the bloggers, plus have their permission.

but the problem stays, that with that RSS-feed thingy I will create double content and run into trouble with google search and SEO in general.

So if anybody has another idea i would be greatful

case 1:
I create valuable and absolutely unique content --> google honors me with a high pagerank and therefore a top rank in search results

case 2:
I dublicate my content and offer it on the second webpage --> google thinks one of them is cheating, cant decide which one, and decreases both page ranks and search results (even if i own both webpages and am the creator of the content)

hummm .. does that make my problem understandable?

Hi!

Yes, of course. You'll never solve that. You can only hide that duplicate content from google by preventing it to access your site with duplicate content.

So: Either you have a site with duplicate content, or you don't. You can't both have it. :-)

hrm, you could always just use the first few words from any post. I use the extended body extension which allows me to separate a post. It gives me a link to read more on a second page if I so choose. It also makes people click onto my site if they are reading the RSS feed.

If you used this plugin on the original sites it would then link to that site to read the entire contents. If you have the same content on different sites then google will kill your rank. You could always just do like Garvin said and block search engines all together. A simple robots.txt should do the trick.
