RemoteRSS plugin no longer showing links

Post by Chris »

Hi,

I'm having a strange problem with the RemoteRSS plugin which has been working very well all this while. The problem I've having is that each RSS feed item is no longer being displayed as a hyperlink to the original article.

If you have a look at my blog :

http://www.christopher-chan.com/blog/

About halfway down the sidebar on the right as three RSS feeds :

- ztravelicio.us
- BBC
- Wired
- Lifestyle Investor

None of the feed items from these feeds are showing up as hyperlinks as they used to. The only change is that I upgraded to 1.1.2 yesterday.

Any advice is very much appreciated !

thanks,

Chris

Hi!

Can you tell me how you configured the remoterss plugin, which config settings?

And could you tell me the RSS URL of one of the feeds? Then I could check if those feeds have the item set that the plugin checks for to embed a link?

Regards,
Garvin

Thanks as always Garvin !

My RemoteRSS options (i've not changed any of these settings since day 1) :

- RSS link : no
- Escape HTML output : yes
- Charset : ISO-8859-1
- RSS/OPML linktarget : _blank
- Feedtype : RSS
- Perform Markup Transformations : no

Here's the weird thing, now one of the feeds is displaying the links properly whereas yesterday it wasn't. But the other three feeds are still not displaying the links.

Here's the feeds :

- http://blog.ztravelicio.us/?feed=rss2 (appears to be working at the moment)
- http://newsrss.bbc.co.uk/rss/newsonline ... ge/rss.xml
- http://www.wired.com/news/feeds/rss2/0,2610,,00.xml
- http://blog.lifestyleinvestor.com/?feed=rss2

thanks !

Hi!

I believe you must set "RSS link" to "yes". :-) :-)

I see that the default setting is set to "no", so it might be that when this option was introduced its default setting changed the behaviour. I just patched the plugin for future s9y versions to use 'true' as a new default.

You might need to wait some time for it to take effect because of the caching of RSS feeds.

Garvin

I have a feed coming from Google's main blog. I have tried all kinds of different combinations so far and nothing has worked. It used show just fine. I had the BBC's tech news there. When I try to put the tech news back all it shows are the dates.

here's my blog: http://www.seodigg.n33dlink.com
Thank You. Sergio

The only thing that has changed (I guess this is a major change) is that I have updated to the latest version of Serendipity and the theme change

Hi!

Hm, your sidebar is very confusing. Where do you display RSS feeds? Are they turned on now and simply don't show?

Sorry I have turned it off briefly. It's back on now and is at the bottom of the sidebar. As You can see nothing at all is showing. I am using the feed from Google's webmaster central blog. This is a screenshot of how I have it set at the moment.

Later edit:
I have just tried the feed from wired magazine and it worked fine. But it did not before. I have put the Google feed on again and it still does not work.

Hi!

When I look into the HTML sourcecode I see:

Code: Select all

    <div class="serendipitySideBarItem container_serendipity_plugin_remoterss">
        <h3 class="serendipitySideBarTitle serendipity_plugin_remoterss">Google's webmaster central feed</h3>        <div class="serendipitySideBarContent"><!-- Cache failed to /home/n33dlink/public_html/seodigg/templates_c/remoterss_cache_httpgooglewebmastercentralblogspotcomfeedspostsdefault.dat in /home/n33dlink/public_html/seodigg --><br /></div>
    </div>
Please check if the directory 'templates_c' is writable and the mentioned file also, if it already exists.

HTH,.

the folder is writeable, but the files aren't and for some reason I cannot change the permissions.
