Carriage Return question in Admin Panel

Post by jocelynaz »

Hello all ~
When I am creating an entry and press "enter" for a new line, it gives me a double space. I only want a single space. I tried to click shift + enter and that gives me a single space in the editor. But when I save the entry, Serendipity deletes the carriage return and shows that line as part of the previous paragraph.

Can someone tell me how I can change to single spacing for carriage returns?

Thanks!! I hope this makes sense. :)

Hi!

Could you show us a URL of your blog where you have an entry with that phenomenon? We would need to see the HTML source code of this.

Thanks Garvin! I was about to bump this post up :) Here's my blog URL:

http://www.homemakerinprogress.com

This is happening anytime I create an entry and I only want a single spaced line. If you especially look at my entries with any bullet points, you'll see a big double space between the prior sentance and the bullet points. There are times when I only want a single space between there, not double. Anytime I press enter in the post editor, it automatically gives me a double space.

I appreciate your help with this! Thought I could deal with it as is, but it's driving me a little crazy at times because I'm so into "appearance". LOL!

Hi!

hm, if I look at that page and the "Day 10 ~ Raw Food Log" posting for example, I have no extra spacing between bulleted points, neither in IE nor in Firefox?!

Best regards,
Garvin

Hello Garvin -- I apologize...I did not explain it very well...

There are no double spacing in between the individual bullets. For some reason, when I use bullets, the single spacing is fine.

BUT....it only occurs, when I am typing regular paragraph text. After I type my text and then hit 'enter', rather than just going to the next single spaced line, it automatically gives me a double space. THis is fine on some occasions, especially if I need to create a new paragraph. But there are times when I want a single space.

Does this clarify it better?? I apologize if I'm not doing a great job explaining this! My husband has looked at it briefly (he's a programmer) and he's not sure why it's happening.

Thanks for any other help and for your time!

OKay...I think I am going CRAZY. Now everything works just fine!

I just went and created a new test entry and then hit 'shift' + 'enter' to give me a single space and it worked fine even after I saved it. In the past when I did this (used shift+enter) and then saved the entry, Serendipity would bring the line back up to the previous line. (with no spacing!) But I am still having the issue of serendipity giving me a double space after I hit 'enter'. But as long as the shift+enter is working and I can get a single space then it's all good. :)

I am so sorry to have wasted your time! I don't know what changed because this was happening from the time I started using Serendipity the end of March! Now today, it worked fine. Oh well....thank God!

This newbie greatly appreciates your assistance! :)

Hi!

Hehe, no problem. All is well that ends well :)

Shift-Enter should be the perfectly fine way to handle things, yes.

Hi,

I got same experience with WYSIWYG Editor. I solve this problem with off line entry using Kate (using OpenSuSE 10.2) and copy-paste :D to the WYSIWYG Editor.

It's OK due to my slow internet connection in my country. I have a bad experience while writing a long post without using regular "save as draft", and while trying to publish this post, it show "Error connection" . Sadly, I tried "Back" button and my post gone away successfully :(.

You may solve this problem by using FCKEditor as your WYSIWYG Editor.

Best Regards,
