This was a bug for internet explorer when using PNG images and the "browsercompatibility" plugin. This has been fixed a few days ago in CVS...

still got the error, so

Post by efurban »

my s9y version is the cvs on Feb-18
but I still got his error

Error: Access is denied to: http://www.mikeope.com/plugin/pngbehavior.htc

so, I have to put the correct url into the serendipity_event_browsercompatibility.php file (line 62-63)

just so you know and hopefully this will be fixed later, if this is a bug. :)
[re-edited]:
forget about this, what I did just caused more problem after login to my site. all png pics got messed up.

btw, the serendipity_event_browsercompatility.php file ext was ph0000644. I manually changed it to php .

If your file extension looked like this you probably have a very garbaged installation there!

If you get an access denied error you should look that you use the same URL in your browser for the blog as you've configured in Serendipity! Otherwise the IE will complain as it won't include .htc files accross domain boundaries.

Thank u very much, but all i did was to grab the tar.gz file from the download page and do "tar zxvf filename.tar.gz"... will try a different system later.

about the URL/domain access denied problem:
the domain name is mikeope.com, but it's forwarded to
http://ouwu.uc.org/mike/
problems:

1) if I use ouwu.uc.org/mike/ as the path in sy9, IE doesn't load the site correctly (looks like I don't have a style file)
2) accessing from both ( www.mikeope.com or ouwu.uc.org/mike ) urls gives me the same access denied error. (path is configured as www.mikeope.com)

I really appreciate your help.
thanks.

I hope you mean tar -zxvf filename.tar.gz ;)

Anyway; since some people are having these problems, how about generating a MD5 sum for every snapshot that's released? That would solve most of these problems. Since the upload is scripted (I hope it is at least! ;)) all you really would need to do is to make another script that generated a MD5 sum for the package.
255 characters is not enough.

that's why

Post by efurban »

ok, I just tried at another system and there is no problem with the file name at all.
system 1: openBSD 3.2 (which gives me the problem)
system 2: gentoo 2004 (no problem at all)

Tho it doesn't bother me that much, but is there anyway to fix the access denied problem?

Thanks very much for your prompt reply.

:)

btw, I know many ppl already said this, hehe.. I really love s9y.

efurban: I am sorry, the only solution for you is to stay within the same domainname and not use the redirection feature.

If I download http://www.mikeope.com/plugin/pngbehavior.htc this will redirect to http://ouwu.uc.org/mike/plugin/pngbehavior.htc - and then the IE will (rightfully) complain about the domain issues.

So you should fix yourself to one domain and fix all path settings / style.css issues so that you work only with the URL defined in Serendipity's BaseURL.

me again :)

hm, i can't get this figured out. same ugly problem here - all images are covered by a "blank.gif", the original images are not visible (.png, .gif - doesn't matter...).

but i never touched some kind of important url's i thought?
and i updated recently?

and... i'm not really redirecting to my blog... so.. im confused now.

what to do? this is fixed? is it? why the error, then? strange.

damn IE. why it's _always_ the IE which doesn't work proper? heyho, its v.7! when will they start to realize?
"oh, crappit, our browser wasn't running correct all the time..." ?
and those people get paid for their shit... world is so cruel...

Hi!

blank.gif is caused by the "browser compatibility" plugin, which is needed for IE to display transparent PNGs. Only works when ActiveX is enabled.

hi garvin!

yeah, i tried a little around with my browser-settings and this plugin...

well, the default-IE would not show my images. thats not really good. but when i de-installed the "browser compatibility"-plugin, my pics are shown, but shown wrong... o0

means: not transparent. around each image i see some wrong-coloured border.... -.-

so a few questions:

what does "browser compatibility" do? is it good/necessary/important to have this plugin? what would happen if i uninstall it?

then, if IE has trouble with image transparency, what if i just use non-transparent images? give them the correct background - would that help?

simple solutions, to me. but i don't want to forget some other aspects ore some other browsers. what do you think?

can i do it this way? or will there be other problems left? i'm not sure about uninstalling this plugin...

hope you can give me some hints how to manage this,

thanx!

Hi!

The images are properly shown in my default IE installation and many others. The only problem it sometimes makes is that images are enlarged to much. This comes from omitting "width" or "height" to the <img> tags.

The plugins uses a behaviour JS that iterates through all images and adds the PNG transparency info snippet.

Using non-transparent images won't work with free background colors, of course. Since all the images shall work with every background, we can only use transparency as a solution. :)

Of course for your templatre you can replace the images with fixed backgrounds. :)

Best regards,
Garvin

oh? mh. i'm not using IE, except for testing-purposes. but that doesn't matter. doesn't work here, so i'm angry, so i'll change. :)

:)

yes, yes of course you have to do so! but i'm talking about this one theme only for me ;)

garvinhicking wrote: Of course for your templatre you can replace the images with fixed backgrounds. :)

yay, so easy? ;)
then i'll do so.

this compatibility-plugin is just for the behaviour of the png-transparency? nothing else?
i was afraid of getting some other plugin-features lost if i'd deinstall it. but when using fullcolored, matching images, i guess i can trouble-free live without that :)

thanx a lot! ... umm... eh... how often do you hear that a day? you should code a "thanx"-counter or something... ;)

Hi!

Yes, the compat plugin currently serves no other purpose than PNG transparencing for fuckin' IE. :)

oh, believe me - if i could afford, i'd pay a _lot_ of people for their great work. hope there are much donations!

lol, btw: another funny problem, but not really worth thinking about it:

i just added backgrounds to my images, of course ecaxtly the same colors i'm using on my page.

well, in firefox ther's no difference to before that, of course.

in IE the light-coloured backgrounds are shown allright, for e.g: white. works.

but the darker backgrounds, i'm using some tan/olive colours, are shown different: i can easily see a difference between my recently coloured images and the page-packground. it's mainly happening in the admin-area, so who cares.

the ability to show the same color (and i'm _very_ sure those are the same!) in different ways is a new IE-behaviour, to me... :D

nice day!
