Multilanguage entries
Multilanguage entries
Hi,
I wonder if there are any plans to add a feature to handle multilanguage entries.
I imagine that one can specify the language for each new entry it has been written in.
The title page could make use of a language selection box, or anything appropriate to let the user choose what entries in what language he would like to see.
Any comments?

Re: Multilanguage entries
This feature exists for latest snapshots of Serendipity 0.8 and the additional plugin "serendipity_event_multilingual". ![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
Try it out!![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)

Hi,
I'm using the latest CVS build and updated from 0.7.x. This worked perfectly! I've installed youe mentioned plugin: "serendipity_event_multilingual".
1) Moreover I'm using the WYSIWYG editor to edit entries. When adding a new one I get the following errors:
When *not* using the WYSIWYG editor all runs well.
BTW: I've not had these errors in version 0.7.x so far.
2) It would be fine if one can filter for the language in the overviewpage of the entries and/or if all available languages of an entry would be visible at once.
3) when editing a previous saved article, which has been saved in default language *and* English language, I cannot get back the English version of the entry when I try to change the language to English.
Perhaps you can comment on these three statements/requests?
Thanks,
Roaster

Correction: I get back the text in both languages when editing again, however a little note using this feature:3) when editing a previous saved article, which has been saved in default language *and* English language, I cannot get back the English version of the entry when I try to change the language to English.
- I'm choosing a language other than "default" e.g. "English" and pressing "Choose language",
- the editor fetches the English text, that's correct,
- However when saving the English text, the editor reloads the "Default" text, but does not change the language selection box - it still reads "English".
It would be better either to let the editor display the English text that's my preferred option or if this is not possible to change the selection box to the default language again.
BTW: it would be fine if this selection box is on top so the user can see what language he/she is currently editing.
thx,
Roaster
Once again ![Wink ;-)](./images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)
The language selection box on the Blog's start page shows, in my case, German. I've got several entries edited in English and German language.
I tried to change the language on the start page from German to English but nothing happens (using Firefox 1.0 BTW).
The page reloads but all displayed entries are still shown in German language and the language selection box shows - you will guess it already - German.
How can I change to English language?

Roaster

Please give me the URL to your page.
You are using latest CVS of Serendipity and the latest CVS version of the multilangual plugin? Are you using the 'extended properties' plugin as well?
Regards,
Garvin

Hi Roaster!
Hm, it's a pity about the URL you don't have at hand - because on my installation it works as expected - and not many users are using it currently so I'd really appreciate if I could fix existing bugs...
Maybe when you're decided about Serendipity and installed it 'for life' we can look at it?![Smile :-)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)

Servus,
The selection box shows "German" and I want to change to "English". The page reloads but all shown blog entries are still in German language.
Of course I've added English versions of the various entries.

As posted in thread "Sticky notes" I've already installed a plugin "extended properties" and this works now for entries, however the problem with the language selection box on the start page still exists. You are using latest CVS of Serendipity and the latest CVS version of the multilangual plugin? Are you using the 'extended properties' plugin as well?

Servus,
after some further testing I have got a feature request: It would be fine if I could add multilanguage categories.
These categories can be display to the end-user on the start page however IMO it would be necessary to provide them in the users language.
Oh and I have setup a test site. Please have a look at: http://blog.thisworx.de/. This way you can test my problem when changing the language from German to English...

Hi Roaster!
The feature request is a quite nifty one. I doubt it'll get implemented anytime soon, since I think you can already manually achieve this?!
Anyways - I looked at your testblog. I can properly change the display language back and forth from english to default and so on without any problems. I'm using Firefox 1.0, Cookies enabled.

Answering myself:
Yes, now it works for whatever reason @home, too. BUT only if I'm looking at the blog without any login.
This means: I'm using FF 1.0 and in one tab the blob's startpage.
On a second page I login to administrate the blog. From this time on I cannot change the language on the start page anymore!
Perhaps you can retry this?
Thx,
Roaster
