Graybox Plugin for S9y

Post by Andyman77 »

Hiya,

Found this Greybox scipt, similar to lightbox, but in my view a lot smoother, and most importantly, a lot smaller.

Quotes from the site:
Why use GreyBox:
  • * It does not conflict with pop-up blockers
    * It's only 22 KB!
    * It's super easy to setup
    * It's super easy to use
    * You can easily alter the style as it is controlled through CSS
Now working very well in S9y,

More info on greybox and what it can do from here

And available in script for (Garvin for Sparticus?) my site here

comments welcome

Hi!

Is there a specific advantage to the thickbox plugin variant, which also offers popups and stuff?

We currently have thickbox, lightbox, lightbox2 in our "lightbox" plugin, so I'm a bit reluctant to add a fourth variant of a thing doing the same -- so could you elaborate a bit more on the advantages that this script has over the others?

Many thanks for your involvement,
Garvin

I couldn't get thickbox to work.
Lightbox will only do images,
Greybox, does images, HTML pages and the likes,
I'm testing it to see if I can use it if you want to have comments popping up.
Greybox does this much smoother than the others.

the other advantage is the code size, Thickbox and lightbox code is over 100kb. Greybox is less than 20kb

As I was the one who brought along lightbox, I gues Greybox is an upgrade.

I'm playing around with a new theme using greybox features.

you can see the test site here

Still under development.

But I do see your point with the collection of lightbox plugins. :)

on a first look, greybox has many interesting features!

there is nothing to me, I would use - I am happy with lightbox plus - but I think it is worth to give it to the s9y-users!

Perhaps it could be integrated into the lightbox-plugin? After my strucutre-changes it should be easy to add a new script into it, I think.

I have tested graybox and it is easy to set up, powerfull and looks very cute! The various options to view html is an additional cool feature. In my opinion a very good alternative to lightbox and I would vote for an entry in spartacus. I think I will switch in the next days.

The only problem I had was trying to get graybox to run flash pages for some reason... :(
Other than that, I think it's very neat... I'm working on a theme that uses it for comments and the like.
I can't seem to get the edit window to open in graybox, that would be nice.

But, thanks to all, for the support.

Hi!

Andyman77, did you consider stm's suggestion about patching it as an alternative into the lightbox plugin? It would be nice to add that option, what do you think?

Regards,
Garvin

Yep, nice idea, I will try and find time to work on it. I don't think it should be too hard.

Thanks for the encouragement :D

That'll be great, since I'm currently looking for a small lib that can display all kinds of content. Greybox looks very promising :D

Hiya Garvin,

Finally found time to try and integrate graybox to lightbox set of JS scripts.

However, I get the following error.. all over the bottom of the test page:
http://test.andyramblings.co.uk/

Warning: preg_replace(): Empty regular expression in /<..>/serendipity_event_lightbox/serendipity_event_lightbox.php on line 164

this is line 164:

$eventData[$element] = preg_replace($regex, $sub, eventData[$element]);

Pretty stuck from there...

All over scripts work OK... ?

Update 17/12 - 15:10
Fixed above problem, however, script still not quite working.
Have updated the thickbox to version 2.02 however this comes up with an error about :
permission denied to get property window.nodeType.

Zip file available from here : Here :)

So am a bit stuck... Hope someone can shed some light on the problem.

Also, just wondering, But I think the name of the script should be changed? to something JS box Scripts?

Updated Zip file with all scripts working except thickbox, the problem appears to be having other JS scripts working at the same time.. WIll keep an eye out for a fix..

Otherwise the older version is still in the folder but zipped up.

Another idea...
I don't know about others, but as both thickbox & graybox allow you to open HTML files in the same manor, is there a way to program into S9y options to allow this.
Like:
Full window,
Sized window (default size?)

I think it would be good.

Looking foward to feedback :)
