Äh, when I say "should" I mean, s9y will do so and so it should be work for you, too.Scrapinette wrote:Yes in fact, it would be an improvement.stm999999999 wrote: But it should work in that way, that inserting a new URL at editing an existent entry, makes a new trackback.

Re: Can't create trackbacks !
Hi !

I feel confused... 9 over 9 trackbacks failures sound to me a lot ! How can I check that the problem is not on my side ? What message (if any) would I get if trackbacks are moderated on the remote blogs ?
Thank you in advance for your inputs !
I'm sorry to come back on this point but I still have a problem with trackbacks. This morning I decided to create a new entry with 9 trackbacks making sense. I wrote the post including the normal post URLs (permalinks) and I copied the trackbacks URLs of the related posts in the Trackback-Control field as discussed earlier to ensure that remote blogs will get trackbacks. When I published the entry (http://www.scrapinette.com/blog-scrapbo ... scrap.html) all remote blogs have been pinged and all trackbacks failedgarvinhicking wrote:Exactly! There you need to enter the URL that on the target pages tell you what the trackback URL is.But this time this is the trackback URL and not the "normal" URL that I have to enter in this field. Right ?

By the way, up to now, I always copied in the Trackback-Control field whole trackback link (including http://). Should I remove it like for other ping URLs ?

Vérifie http://scrapouille.spaces.live.com/blog ... #trackback pour des rétroliens éventuels...garvinhicking wrote: What failure message exactly did you get? Which were the URLs?
• Rétrolien échoué: Pas de rétrolien trouvé.
which means :
Check http://scrapouille.spaces.live.com/blog ... #trackback for possible trackbacks
• backtrack failed: No backtrack found.
Please find below the lists of trackbacks failing that way :

http://blogtortues2005.canalblog.com/ar ... trackbacks
http://scrapuleusement.canalblog.com/ar ... trackbacks
http://admin.over-blog.com/trackback.php?Id=4851649
I copied it in the Trackback-control field as such.
Well, I've seen a number of blogs that even don't propose any trackback URLs for posts... Can trackback URLs be copied on the remote blog if trackbacks are disabled ?garvinhicking wrote: Nowadays mans blogs disable trackbacks...?
Thanks for your help. I really wonder if there is something wrong with my blog (or what I do !) or if I just have no luck up to now...

Hi!
On this page it says the trackback URL is this:
http://scrapouille.spaces.live.com/blog ... A!936.trak
I didn't find that URL in your list, but this is the one you need to enter in the list of additional trackbacks.
HTH,
Garvin

If a blog does not give you a trackback URL, they usually don't support trackbacks. Trackbacks need to be supported by both the sending AND the receiving blog!Well, I've seen a number of blogs that even don't propose any trackback URLs for posts... Hi !
So I tried with all posts to which I want to send a trackback. All failed again but this time messages are different : "Access denied", "Trackback not allowed" or "Target address contains no data".
Well a bit clearer... Apparently, it works but I have no luck !
All these blogs use canalblog or over-blog...
Many thanks for your help ! I really begin to understand howe it works !
Thanks ! You helped to identify the wrong thing I did... Trackback URLs cannot be copied by a right click on the trackback link at the end of the post but by clicking on this link and then copying the given URL.garvinhicking wrote: On this page it says the trackback URL is this:

But apparently, even if a trackback URL is given this doesn't mean that the receiving blog accepts trackbacks ! Is there a mean to know if trackbacks are accepted by a blog before trying to send then ?garvinhicking wrote: If a blog does not give you a trackback URL, they usually don't support trackbacks. Hello,
I have been following this post so that I can understand the function of Trackbacks.
You say that you need a Trackback plugin. I have searched the plugins and the only plugin referencing trackbacks is the Trackback-Control Plugin. Is this the plugin you are referring to?
If so, I am unsure about most of the fields this plugin refers to in the Options:
Proxy Host
Proxy Port
Proxy User
Proxy Password
Can you tell me how these are meant to be filled in?
Thank you.

Hi!
http://www.s9y.org/48.html
It explains how trackbacks work a bit more in depth.
You basically need to plugin to send or receive a trackback when using Serendipity. However the blog you send a trackback to needs to also support the Trackback API. The plugin I mentioned is just there to send manual trackbacks to blogs that do not fully implement the Trackback API and forget to add RDF-metadata to their blog output.
The Proxy-Options are optional, if your webserver does not require a proxy to send requests, you can simply ignore it.
HTH,
