Images Pictures Graphics

Post by MidNiteRaver »

Newbie here, no code just struggling website owner.

I have Serendipity installed and somewhat operational. I want to add images to my posts. Can someone take me through step by baby step what needs to be done to where and how?

Please Thanks

Just a thought but have you thought of starting a WIKI manual thing so that you can build a users manual that all the forum members can help build and you basically edit to ensure correctness that way when you answer a question on a specific query it will be there catalogues and indexed.....the forum is great but it is kind of continuous rolling information, and you often end up answering the same question several times.

Our wiki is at www.s9y.org - there is a manual on how to add/create postings with some starter information already.

To insert images, first click on "manage images/media" and upload an image. When you've uploaded all your images, you can create a new entry. There you click on the "Media" button (Serendipity 0.7.1) - if you use WYSIWYG editor, it's a button with an image only - the image looks like a table with dots in it. When you click on that, the media browser will open. Just choose the picture you like to insert, all the following steps are easy.

Most of all is self-explaining, so have a go. :-)

If you would like to contribute to our Documentation, I can give you a documentation Wiki user account? That would be great!

Regards,
Garvin

Looked high and low on the s9y.org site and don't see miuch on imaging.

This may be a dumb question but do I have to have imagemagick installed before uploading pictures? If so how do I go about doing this and where?

How to add image to a post.

Post by ykoehler »

Hi,

New to serendipity, since January. I have started my site and I have figured that to add image to a post, you first have to upload your images inside the mediatheque, once this is done, you can use inside your post the following HTML code

<img src="/<upload path>/<image filename>"/>

The first / is important otherwise your image may just show up in the front page of your site but not in the article itself. The upload path is whatever you put in the configuration of your site for that field, default is "uploads". Finally the image filename is the combination of the folders name used in the mediatheques et the real filename of the image.

Example, I have uploaded inside my mediatheques "images" folder the picture of my face: face.jpg. I then put the <img src="/uploads/images/face.jpg"/> tag and voilà.

Now, even thought this can be done, serendipity is even more user friendly than that. Inside the HTMLArea editor, they added a nice icon just to the right of the Insert Image icon of standard HTMLArea. That icon when click will pop-up the same window as the mediatheque and would let you visually pick the picture.

If that wasn't enough, they also allow you to setup a style to float the image left or right and put a description of it that will be nicely added to the article. I did miss that feature until I saw the screenshots section of the s9y.org nice website.

I hope that helps.

:) :) :) :) :D :D :)
Now that's the type of instruction ppl like me need. Great, Thanks for the user friendly guide. Going to try this, and report back so that others who read post can have a confirmation that it works. Only too often I read posts that have what seems to be solutions but never have a confirmation that the solution proposed works. I would be good if the confirmed solutions were added to a sticky folder called "Solutions" or something like that (or put in the wiki) so that ppl can use it as a confirmed source of "Solutions".

Thanks again, will try and then report.
