Newbie question according usermanagement

Post by Floh »

Hi,

I'm new here, set up my Weblog yesterday night and it's really great stuff you did with Blog-System :)

Just two questions - I'm just setting up usermanagement, but can't find any item to specify that normal users can edit their comments. And I wonder why the username of a registered user isn't shown in the comments form wenn logged in.

greetings from austria

Great to hear that!

Inside the groupmanagement, you can specify if a user can moderate/edit comments. If this is set, a user can access the "comment" section in the admin backend, and moderate all comments that were made to entries created by him.

If the user also has the privilege to maintain other people's entries, he'll also be able to moderate comments made by other authors.
And I wonder why the username of a registered user isn't shown in the comments form wenn logged in.
Yes, the names are not filled in because in the past people wanted to be able to anonymously comment to their own blog while being logged in. Don't ask me why.

Anyhow, using the Plugin "User Self-Registration" you can configure this so that author names will be filled in automatically, and that anonymous users cannot use existing author names.

I tried this now, but thats not what I want, cause this way users are able to edit comments somebody made on their entries, but not their own comments.

I don't want any other user be able to create new entries, or edit comments from other users. I just want them do edit the comments they made.

Ok, this is a good workaround :) But as soon as a user is logged in, he can use any username, even one from another registered user - is this a bug?

Thanks for your answer! I'm gonna learn about php and stylesheets I guess cause as far as I can see, this Blog can do a whole lot of great stuff if one knows a little bit about php :)

That's true. There is no functionality to only edit one's own comments. It would need to be added.

No, once he is logged in, he can only use his own username -- at least this is how it's supposed to work and did work so in my test blog. Did you try it? Doesn't it work for you?

Exactly! Serendipity is made for the adventurous, it has a great plugin API and templating API with which you can do anything you want. Also the functionality mentioned above about editing your own comments shouldn't be that heard - it could even be made as a plugin. :)

Yes, I tried and it didn't work. but mabye because I was logged in with the admin user and tried another username.
I will check this with a normal user later and come back to you.

Hi!

Indeed this was buggy behaviour. :)

I configured the plugin so that only registered authors can post, and to enable the true identites check - in this case it worked. But if you allowed comments from non-registered authors, one could submit with a name that was already registered when he was logged in. I have fixed this now in version 2.16 of the plugin which should be in CVS/Spartacus soon.

Best regards,
Garvin
