Making a Blog Private?

I have search through the forums but can't seem to find the answer.

I am the only person to actually use & make entries in my blog... however I would like to make it private so that only registered members can view my entries. That way my entries are protected from someone randomly stumbling upon my blog my mistake.

Is there a way to do this?? I am new to this software (formerly used b2evolution) & really like this one better so far...

Can anyone offer any help on this?

Yes, you can do that by using the serendipity usergroups feature of serendipity 0.9.1.

You can enter the category administration and set the "Read"-Permission only to the usergroup that you are logged in to.

You can also use the "Extended Properties for entries" plugin to hide specific entries to specific usergroups only.

Another method you could use of course would be to modify your .htaccess file and add a password protection to your blog...

I *think* I found it...

I am now having another problem with people registering via the "user self registration" plugin... but think I saw someing about it in another thread- so I will check that out first.

Hi Lumpy!

This plugin is bundled with Serendipity Versions above 0.8. ("serendipity_event_entryproperties"). It is an event plugin and works with 1.0.

Ah ok there was a misunderstanding from my site. I thought I could use this feature to hide certain categories from the frontpage but I think this is not implemented, yet? Isn't it?

I guess the workaround is that I have to create the manually instead of using the dynamic category section?

I just want to achieve that some categories are not visible on the frontpage.

The entries in these categories are set to »Administrators« group only so that no one else except the Administrators can access them.

What I would like to have is that "normal" users which are not logged in cannot see these categories and the Administrators should these categories.

Is it possible?

Hi!

Did you set the READ permissions of that category also to "Admin only"? If so, view your blog when you are not logged in as admin, and you shouldn't see that category.

Yes I did

The read and write permissions for the categories are set to »Administrators« only.

Although I'm not logged in can see the categories on the frontpage.

I'm missing somethin.

Hi!

Did you enable the serendipity option (or was it a plugin config option) that says "Enable ACL for categories"? This is required if you want to make the ACL apply to categories. Beware though that it has a performance impact.

I guess you are talking about the following option?

Apply read-permissions for categories
If enabled, the usergroup permission settings you setup for categories will be applied when logged-in users view your blog. If disabled, the read-permissions of the categories are NOT applied, but the positive effect is a little speedup on your blog. So if you don't need multi-user read permissions for your blog, disable this setting.

This option was/is activated by default. Therefore it should be working.
