category plugin: display the number of items per category...

Hi,

I would like to display the number of entries per category in the sidebar, like "category (number)"

How can I do this?

There are no options in the category plugin.

I using s9y 0.8.2

another useful count would be the number of views an entry has received.
Placed in the entry's footer (say).

number of views can be done using karma plugin.

True. Karma displays hits to the entry if it's ever viewed as an archive or extended view. But not if it's viewed as an entry on the front page or a category page.

but you have to display all the karma voting details as well. I was looking for a more simple page view count to display with the entry.

You cannot count the views on the frontpage view, as nobody can now if a visiting user really sees your article. The hits would then have no meaning at all, so it only tracks clicks. You might want to use a general statistics tracking module like awStats, modlogan or phpOpenTracker...

For changing the number of entries per category you must use serendipity 0.9 and the new "Templates/Properties of Categories" plugin.
