first site live using serendipity

Post by Imajica »

Just thought I would share my first effort with serendipity
Since the showcase forum is locked I put it here

http://www.myfavoritepinups.com/ is my pinup site
It's using modified bulletproof theme and it was converted from NucleusCMS

Little cleanup work and some legacy needs to be taken care of
ie: nucleus used to allow you to use a %thickbox% variable in a post use thickbox/lightbox without generating a thumbnail

Code: Select all

<%ThickBox(http://www.myfavoritepinups.com/images/ink/4.jpg|Bass Clef|fade)%>
I'm going to have to go thru a bunch of posts and edit that.. not looking forward to that part

But all in all? I think it turned out pretty good

On behalf of the Serendipity community, I would like to say that your site will require MULTIPLE visits before I/we can comment on the... um.... condition of your conversion...

I do like your content! And I encourage you to explore the responsive themes available in Serendipity as your site development continues. Responsive themes adapt to your visitor's browsers, giving them the best possible viewing experience, which in turn, keeps them returning to your site.

I agree with to a certain extent
I'm doing Nailed It as a responsive site, but the pinup site has 90% of it's traffic from desktop and tablet, at least according to my traffic monitor, so I wanted it to remain a full screen site

My main issue with responsive design is probably me...
Not knowing how to create themes myself (I'm a die hard infrastructure guy) I can only modify what is already existing and a lot of the responsive themes/templates look similar to me

Serendipity is a great platform for me with the plugin structure and how themes are laid out
It's very configurable
But I do get lost in navigating what themes are actually available
The organization of the theme gallery has me installing anything that looks interesting and then trying to mod it to the look in my head without knowing what is actually responsive until I start digging into it

Thanks for the thought tho
I will keep exploring as I bring more sites online... I have 6 total to convert and each one has it's own look and feel to it

Is "Nailed It" also a s9y site?

It would be "full screen" on any device if responsive.

I completely understand. Serendipity is small, but fiercely committed, community. Only a few developers contributing themes... so some of the themes share functional and esthetic similarities.

Stealing from another post, the responsive themes at the moment are:

s9y core (2.0.4): 2k11 (current standard theme), clean-blog, next, timeline
s9y core (2.1.x): skeleton
additonal_themes: bartleby, photo, resy

Creating themes with Serendipity is pretty easy. I, and possibly others here, will be more than happy to help you when we can. I personally look forward to your additional Serendipity conversions.

Heyhey, thanks for sharing Imajica. Looks great and congrats!
I'm very new to the world of Serendipity and am currently still in the researching phase but I look forward to checking out the Nailed It theme after seeing yours. :)

Here is the first draft...
In this one I am using serendipity as more of a CMS with a lot of static pages

http://www.naileditsalon.com/

still working on the flow and the front page gets a content overhaul next

Looks great! Love the name "Nailed It"!
I like that the contact info is readily available in the sidebar on the right-hand side no matter what page you're viewing. And all the info is very clear and straight forward. :D
