clearing plugin list: webpasties

Post by Czorneboh »

Hi all!

I did not found other info about ...

serendipity_plugin_webpasties

... than the short description on the backend plugin overlook for sidebar plugins. It is too short, I think. What and how it can manage, I would like to know before installing.

The plugin was made in 2006 from a canadian user. There is a link from his profile to this page:
http://webpasties.com/

This is only a page about chess.

Even in the s9y manual book I could not find any description about that plugin. There are yet special plugins according to rss, polls and calendars.

So, why keep that plugin still in the list?
Anybody who has tried that plugin. Or perhaps because of developments it does not work anymore?
I have no test blog. So I do not install it to answer by myself.

Because given the fact that this is an open source project maintained by a small group of developers, plugins are few and far between (compared to other systems). So we like to keep plugins (and themes) around in order to offer at least some variety and cover the basic things one could want for in a plugin.

What should we do, remove every plugin (and theme) from Spartacus that hasn't been actively maintained in a while? You'd be surprised how few plugins (and themes) would be left in that case.

(No, I do not use that plugin or know how to use it. Sorry.)

That plugin seems defunct though, we should take that as the needed user report and indeed remove it.

Well, it seems like the plugin used a service which is defunct. (But yes.)

Garvin, the mirros won't have problems when we just remove the files from github?

Hi!

AFAIK CVS does not allow to completely purge directories (but files). I'll remove it from github and CVS and see what happens. :)
