Error: INSERT command denied to user

Post by saddleback »

I have made over 16,000 entries on my "health News Update" blog during the last 2 years, when 3 days ago Serendipity will not allow more entries. The following is a sample of the result:

Error:

I have spent many hours trying to find a solution, including reading hundreds of Forum entries. I had a spam attack last week and have deleted them and disallowed comment entries, at least temporarily. I hope that someone can help find an answer to save my blog. Last month there were over 200,000 views on my blog, so many people depend on this important information.

This is not a problem of s9y. Your user has no rights to insert data into the database. You should talk to your provider why you don't have rights (maybe exhausted a space limit) and ask them to restore your rights for the database.

Just as a sidenote: To avoid having Spam attacks, or been hit by open vulnerabilities, etc, you need(!) to keep updating your blog. Install once and use for ages, is not the recommended usage, even if your main target is its content! This might be the background for your current problem, since also ISPs change their servers soft- and hardware from time to time, which can have bad effects.

PS. This seems to be 1und1.com (not known as the "very best" hoster, at least here in GER).

Ian

The 1und1 MYSQL Databases have a size limit of 1GB (1000 MB). You can see the used space of each database in the controlcenter.

Thanks for all the observations and suggestions. I have 7 URLs with them for over 4 yrs. and have had no complaints, until now. Their support has always been prompt and helpful.

Yes, I have reached the 1G limit for my MySQL Database blog. I have over 16,000 entries and could delete 30% of the dated, less valuable entries without damaging the value of the general content. But the blog has locked me out, preventing that action.

The 1and1 Support responded as follows:

Dear Don Rowley, (Customer ID: xxxxxx82)

Thank you for contacting us.

This is an update pertaining to your escalated case about increasing the size of the database. We apologize for it is not possible to increase the size of the MySQL Database. We suggest to do the following steps that you will see below:

1. Backup data, export the Database (Manually backup any custom themes, etc.)
- Since you are using a Click and Build for your website, there is no option to access your database. However, we could request a backup for your database here in our end, it takes about 3 days.

2. Delete the Click & Build App
- Please login to your Control Panel, Click on App Center then choose Click & Build. Please click on My Applications and then click the Uninstall button.

3. Create new Database with 1,000MB size limit
http://help.1and1.com/search/go.php?t=e627816

4. Install the App manually (Or in Free Mode if it's offered)
- Please login to your Control Panel, Click on App Center then choose Click & Build. Please look for the WordPress application and click Install button.

5. Restore exported Database from Step 1

I am unsure how to back up my blog as suggested in step #1 above. Would someone be so kind as to give me directions, unless you have a better idea.

Hi

I think it is ridiculous to make you purge data, just because of that Limit.
Normally, if there is a limit like this, as soon as you start scratching the 1Gb: change hosting provider, or start paying for more.

Anyhow, I would not start purging entries!

I would start to empty log tables in the database, like spamblock log and visitors table. This has no real effect, without loosing that data for statistics, like for the statistics plugin. These tables can get real huge.

To start working in your database, and to backup, you need a tool like phpMyAdmin, or the console. It looks like they do not even give you access to some tool like that. And the 3 days taking time for a backup is making me speachless - incredible! ;-)

So tell them to make that backup and then empty spamblocklog and, if set, the visitors table for you, to free some space.

Then you will probably have some time until you will reach that limit again. This time I would spend for a search of a better ISP with more ressources, or make a special contract with your ISP to have some more air and get a better account.

What does that mean?
By ~16,000 entries it is not worth starting to purge single entries one by one in the Serendipity backend.
