Easy Podcasting - after update yesterday - strange

Post by Czorneboh »

Hello!

Yesterday I acknowledged there is an update - from version 1.23 to 1.30.
So I updated.

I got a failure message "502 Bad Gateway".

But the update was succesful nevertheless. (Besides: That message I got sometimes while updating, but updating was then successful every time. There is only one exception: The event plugin "Free articles tags" never more updates since version 3.16 (current version is 3.21)).

In the plugin list there is now easy podcasting plugin 1.30.

I have S9Y 1.55, PHP 5.3.6-7, Server nginx 0.9.3

In the frontend all articles, where I had integrated mp3-files, there are now two players. The updated added one more player.

Here are examples:

1) "Moscow Impressions"
http://blog.ost-impuls.de/categories/20-Moskau/P2.html or
http://blog.ost-impuls.de/archives/227- ... ionen.html

2) "The Don Kosaks"
http://blog.ost-impuls.de/categories/15 ... nd/P3.html or
http://blog.ost-impuls.de/archives/140- ... saken.html

Why this happens?

I guess, this is not mentioned as a feature.

What can you recommend me?
Once I had a lot of trouble with installing this plugin, til Garvin helped me out in my blog backend.
So I am in worry about uninstalling this plugin (with the library?) and installing it again.

Thats why I do first ask here.
I had a look in the new Backend of this plugin and was reading the last two threads according to this plugin from April 2011. I changed nothing yet.

Hi!

This error would mean that your server was not properly able to retrieve all files from the Spartacus download server. Maybe due to ressource limits, firewalling or whatever.

I suggest you to download the package manually from spartacus.s9y.org and reupload over your files to be sure you're not missing anything vital.

That you can see two players there is definitely a bug or misconfiguration. Can you check your plugin configuration and see if you entered ".mp3" there maybe multiple times? also, please save teh configuration once to be sure all values are saved properly.

If that does not help - do you use the entryproperties plugin and have caching enabled? This might be related, if it is, maybe you can click the link "Cachen aller Artikel" to rebuild the cache properly without multiple players...

Best regards,
Garvin

Hi!

I compared the folders:
there are 128 files with 19 folders belonging to the update 1.30.
In my blog are now (before exchange with help of filezilla) 134 files with 16 folders.
Can you check your plugin configuration and see if you entered ".mp3" there maybe multiple times?
No, it is not.
please save teh configuration once to be sure all values are saved properly.
.

I can not remember, if I have done it right after updating (with the failure message), but after your answer.
do you use the entryproperties plugin and have caching enabled?
Yes, I do. caching is disabled.

But: Here we are!

"Free fields" - there are "podcast" and "podcast-2"

and also:

"Dia-Show-1"
"Dia-Show-2"
"Dia-Show-3"

I cannot remember, that I had created 3 Dia-Show-fields and a 2nd podcast field. - But: Maybe, for exploration reasons.

So I opened the articles: "Die Donkosaken" and "Moskau Impressionen" in the backend and look there: only in the first field "podcast" I see the mp3-file. There is noting in the next field "podcast-2"

I could take away the mp3-file here and see, if there is still one in the front end. (And if not, put it back and see then, if there are still two or one).

If this will not help, of course I can delete the field "podcast-2" then.

Or what do you recommend me to do next?
I woud like us to understand, what happened here. So I ask again.

Hi!

So you downloaded the podcast-Version from spartacus manually and uploaded all files in there again, to be sure that no files are missing - is this right?

So do you have a link to the MP3 file in the blog article body, AND you put it in the extra field for it? You should only link to it once?!

So yes, I would remove it in the extra field and only leave it in the body...

I'm sure we can work this out, many thanks for helping in improving the plugin!

Garvin

Hi!

Not yet. I will do it next time on my other pc (and tell you the result then).
So do you have a link to the MP3 file in the blog article body, AND you put it in the extra field for it? You should only link to it once?!
In the both named articles I did not put a link to the mp3-file in the entry. I only put in the mp3-file in the podcast-field under the windows for the entries.

But I have another article, where I integrated mp3-files in the entry and in addition to that there is a mp3-file in the podcast-field. I have not checked that one. Let´s see:

http://blog.ost-impuls.de/categories/18-Kunst+Kultur
The 2nd entry. The same: 2 mp3-players. Beneath them there is a link to the mp3-file.
About that I am wondering.
I go into the entry to have a look on the other links to other mp3-files.

Every mp3-player with its unique mp3file is now acompanied with the link to that mp3-file.
This was not before the update.

After clicking the link my VLC-player on my pc will open to play. I don´t want that.

I think about what to do next to put the link away and the 2nd player and will tell you, what I tried out.

So first I will upload the complete update to the Blog, as you recommended.

Done.

The history
At the beginning I created for the extended entry plugin a field for a podcast. In that I have taken one mp3-file. It functioned. The player is in the entry, not extended entry. Nowhere else there was a player or even the link to the mp3-field.
In another article I made this as well and added one other mp3-file in the extended entry. There was than of cause as well a player playing that file. But next to the player there was not an extra link (as it is now).
Than I created that article

http://blog.ost-impuls.de/archives/272- ... tival.html

... using the podcast-field and integrated via media library and editor further mpr3-files, which all where different.

So far as expected.

But after the (incomplete) update the players doubled and in addition to that everywhere the link to the mp3file.

--
I remember why I created 3 fields Diashow. It was after getting Kinetic-Diashow-function. In every such field I can put one picture and all these pictures will be shown in a dia-series.
The 2nd podcast-field I made only for exploration, what happens, if I use both fields.
garvinhicking wrote:So yes, I would remove it in the extra field and only leave it in the body...
I deleted the 2nd podcast-field (where never was a mp3-file). After this there was no change. So that do not influences the phenomenon.

Because I like it to have the player next to the headline/title it is for me not good enough to integrate mp3-files only in the body.

Can I have back the Version 1.23?

Something must be wrong in the plugin-code causing the extra player and the link beside or beneath the player.

Hi!

You could re-download version 1.23 by using CVS, but since that version will be unsupported frmo now on, we should focus on getting it to work properly for you.

I would kindly like you to do this:

1. Disable the Caching option in the "entryproperties" plugin
2. Create a new test mp3 entry, with whatever way you used earlier that produces a double MP3 link

If this also yields two player instances, please give me the URL to that posting. By disabling the caching, we should be able to test this more thoroughly and then provide a bugfix.

Garvin

Hi Garvin!

I have done, what you asked me to do. The cache was already not in use.

I made a lorem ipsum-text "Testtext", put in the extended entry backend the mp3file like before, when it functioned.

There are again 2 players:

Perhaps you would like to have a look in my Easy Podcast Plugin? I guess, this is easiest next step, maybe you than already can see, that sth. there is not right.

You have still my email-adress we used before, haven´t you?

Hi!

I usually delete access data to blogs I get once something is done. So I believe yes, I'd ideally need to access your blog (best via s9y login AND FTP). If you could provide me with the access, please send me a PM or mail. Thanks!

Hi all!

Garvin has found a bug and fixed it meanwhile in my blog and the plugin. The version 1.31 was already issued.

He wrote me, if I do not want the name of the audiofile beside the player, I can put it away by opening the plugin-configuration and in the html code taking away the href-part for the xpsf-audio player.

That´s all :)
