Costa-Nature theme difficulties

Post by orang »

Hi there,

I've been running a blog since almost 4 years now, I think, hardly anything changes ever, always with the Costa-Nature version 0.5 theme (serendipity version is I think 0.9 or something like it). This is all fine and it worked without any problems, but today I just changed one string in the "index.tpl" of that template, i.e. I changed a "href"-description, because I wanted to change the name of the link. So I did, loaded it up again and now the website is blank! I really don't understand this, because I didn't even get close to touching the code in any way.
In my desperation I changed the style in the administration tool and as soon as I had changed the style, the page for the administration tool got blank as well. So now, if I go to ".../serendipity_admin.php?" I get a blank page, I cannot login anymore and all this by changing literally just one word.

How is this possible and how can I solve it? Does anyone have an idea? Would be much appreciated...

Thanks
Stefan

My guess is that you might have some erroneous code in index.tpl, though this should really not impact the back end.

Hi there,

Thank you for your reply.
I'm 100% sure that I didn't change any code at all.

My guess is that some settings while uploading the file, but I don't know which settings, i.e. uploading as ASCII or binary or something else. However, I don't really know what settings would be the good ones.

Thanks,
Stefan

Always upload your files in binary mode. How about upgrading serendipity doing this?
You might profit from all the benefits and bugfixes coming along the past 6 years.
If you have named your costa template with your own name in the folder and info.txt you can just proceed upgrading...(if not make a copy)

Ian
