Number of top referrer spam was rising the last days

There was a time I got comment spam. I could close the door with the spam block plugin (version 1.77). Then a long time almost nothing. Almost only spider from mail.ru from time to time was crowling intensively my blog. I do not wanted to avoid crowling by that mail.ru-bot by excluding it in the robot.txt.

Within the last days I observe a rising of top referrer spam from different casino websites as there are:

  allbestcasino.com
  casinointernetblog.com
  best-casinos.biz
  blackjackcasinoblog.com
  bonusmoneycasino.com
  casinoguideblog.com
  dailypokerblog.com
  freebiegambler.com
  maximumvip.com
  superlotteries.com

Who experienced the same with its blog?
Could you then solve the problem already? How?

Is the right spot to struggle against the spam the spam block plugin? Am I right with assuming, that I need there to type in "casino" or "lotteries" in the line "word filter for URLs" to ban those websites (if their ip adress stays)?
Or what else should I do in the spam block plugin?

I have Serendipity 1.53 installed, with PHP 5.3.2-2

Are you actually showing your referrers anywhere? Cause if not, that isn't aimed spamming and something not really necessary worrying about.

Apart from that, it's new to me that the spamblock-plugin can block traffic altogether. It is aimed at comments and trackbacks. But you could use the .htaccess to block by referrer.

In the configuration under design & options there is the option:
Blocked referrers: Can I block the shown referring casino-Websites by typing in here: casino?

But since yesterday I get the error message 403 FORBIDDEN and I cannot login:

You don't have permission to access / on this server.

The .htaccess ends so:

By what that happend, I don´t know.

My friend, on whose server my blog is running, found that out and has forbidden writing in .htaccess now, after fixing the blocking problem the 3rd time since yesterday. It appeared again and again after a short time my blog was available again.

We are looking for the answer, what has written that in the .htacces-file?:

I dont know if that option under Design & Options does what you want. Probably.
