Spiced up Joshua template ...

Post by BabeSpot »

Hi all,

I am new to this community and new to Serendipity... so it is never wrong to visit the forums about my new blog application!

After using some different weblogs like pivot, wordpress, movable type and even tried to use Joomla (formerly known as Mambo) as weblog, I took notice of Serendipity... and I have to say it works pretty nice!

After trying out some templates I took the joshua template and spiced it up a little bit. Currently I am looking for a better pagination on my front page. Now it only says "next" or "previous" to go to another site, but I prefer a system where the pages are defined like: "go to page 1|2|3|4" etc.. And I am looking to get some of the items out of the frontpage, because alle entries now showing up on the frontpage... So I would like to have something where after a week the entries dissapear on the frontpage and move to the archives.

Well, here it is so far: http://xs2www.xs4all.nl/babespot/

(this page contains nudity and is NSFW!)

Hope to have a good time around here!

Umm, I'd like to say the layout was good, but then I'd have to admit I looked at something other than the content.

Seriously, though, nice job. Your CSS skills are obviously better than mine. And you've got a good selection of the sidebar plugins enabled, and you're using them effectively.

Very nicely done. I notice your shoutbox comments indicate that s9y is faster than Joomla!. More props to Garvin!

Hi Babespot!

Nice page. Must agree to Judebert. Must stop looking. *g*

Anyways, the pagination issue can be made differently. You can have a look at the entries.tpl template and this thread: http://www.s9y.org/forums/viewtopic.php ... bl%E4ttern. You're using a dutch host, so you might be able to understand the german there. If not, tell me and I'll try to translate.

Making things move to the archives is possible, but actually that's not the idea of blogs. Their idea is to always show X items on the frontpage (by default 15). However, Serendipity is flexible and you can hack up a plugin that changes the function call to serendipity_fetchEntries() and instead by fetching the last X items you can fetch items from a specific timespan. $serendipity['range'] global parameter acts for that, and in recent nightlies we have a complete phpdoc documentation where you should be able to make changes to your code.

The central call is within the include/genpage.inc.php file. There you can either patch the call to serendipity_fetchEntries(). If you want it in a more beautiful way, you can copy the whole logic within genpage.inc.php and migrate it to a "config.inc.php" file iny our template directory. This overrides the default genpage methods so that you're able to adjust your own function calls without having to edit any PHP core files.

HTH,
Garvin
