Edited Template, wiped out site

Post by FuzzyChef »

All,

I recently attempted to edit the "entries.tpl" template file on a theme I was using (Dave's "Competition" Theme) to deal with a broken link. Editing the single line of HTML text caused all entries to cease display and become blank. Is this a normal thing? Is there some special way I should be editing .tpl files?

Can you post what you modified? You could just have a typo that is easily corrected.

Don,

No, I reverted the change after it killed the site. There wasn't a typo, though, was the first thing I checked for.

So .tpl files should be editable using a normal text editor, then? I was wondering if the .tpl file had to be recomplied for template_c or something.

Yes, a regular text editor is fine for the tpls. s9y will cache them in templates_c for you.
