Where exactly do you want to use them? This should work just fine. Make sure you've configured serendpity to use the UTF-8 charset.

Hello!

Where can I adjust the distance from a blog entries footer and the header of the previous blog entry to get the layout more clear?

In your theme's style.css, i.e. /templates/YOUR_THEME/style.css.
