podcasting "link" troubles

Post by davehall »

installed podcast plugin and worked flawlessly. put up a few test mp3 using the [podcast: "...."] and they showed up in the blog with out the markup with some little 'greyed out' icon next to them. click on them and they play. whoohooo!!!!!

since everything was so easy, i decided to add/remove some other plugins (can't remember which ones). now when i returned to main page the links were no longer "clickable" and showed up as plain text with the [] surrounding them. I checked the feed using I tunes and it pulled in the mp3s and played them (the feed works). I uninstalled and reinstalled the podcast plugin. I turned off wysiwyg editor. checked the podcast plugin files for some guidance. getting nowhere.

anybody have any ideas on where to proceed?

thanks in advance, new to blogging, loving serendipity,
dave

Hi!

Hm, this sounds very weird. Can you make a screenshot of what you get?

This sounds to me like your /plugin folder is no longer existing or readable?

Drahtlos: I think your problem is very different than from the original problem.

The original problem is about the plugin interface not allowing to configure any plugin anymore.

Now, what's your problem exactly? :-)

Garvin

;-) okay, that is different ;-)

Let's try it a second time:
I do not have any buttons for a player in the frontend when embeding [podcast: link mediatype] a media file or linking to an mp3-file. In the backend I can see only a very very small button - but there is none in the frontend. In the frontend you can only see [podcast: link mediatype].

By changing to a normal link (after changing the linking method in the plugin interface) there is either no button visible.

I am using Serendipity 1.0-beta1.

Do you have a URL where I can see your podcast entries?

To me it seems that other markup plugins are interfering. Which event plugins in which order and versions do you have installed?

URL: Almost nothing to see, because I used a link, that the file will be clickable for everybody (problem does exist for IE *and* mozilla). But if you'd like to have a look: www.drahtlos.org/serendipity/

I already deinstalled the podcast plugin and reinstalled it - no difference.

The event plugins are installed as follows (try to translate them because I got only the German names) from up to down:

- Textformatting Standard Serendipity

- Textformatting Smilies

- Textformatting NL2BR

- Browser-Compatibility

- Spamshield

- Template Selection

- Spartacus

- Registrating new user

- Category as frontpage

- Forgot Password

- GeoURL

- forum

- article mailing

- smiley selection

- poll

- rules for publishing

- Link List

- Gravatar / Favatar

- BBCode

- loggin check for authors

- podcast

- enhanced properties for articles

- cache

Thank you for your help!

Hi!

Please try to temporarily disable the BBCode Markup plugin (or put it after the podcast plugin) and the Caching plugin.

Thanks Garvin, but the problem is not really solved with this workaround. Please compare with IE once and then with Mozilla now. Mozilla shows a extreme small button (can I change this?) and IE really shows a button with a malfunction.

Maybe I should disable some other plugins or change the ranking?

IE and Firefox seem to display both the same button, so it looks fine for me.

The media button comes from moodle.org - you cannot change it, you can only ask the moodle guys if they offer a different interface style.

What solved the issue now? Putting BBCode after the podcast plugin?

Garvin

Yes, seems to be a problem with the associated files under IE - nothing else.

I worked with the file serendipity_event_podcast.php, changed the size of the player button and the alignement behind the link. Now it looks and works - but the link is still shown as text left to the button. Is it normal?

I had followed your advice before in changing the order of cache and bbcode plugin. I even removed both plugins and reinstalled only bbcode again - and puting it after the podcast plugin.

Thanks a lot so far!

you guys are quick. thanks for all the info. tried moving 'podcast' to the top of the list of plugins. -> no help
tried deleting one plugin at a time and then rechecking.. the one that finally did it was 'something about author info'. works now. if anyone wants to know exactly which plugin it was i'll track it down.
also for the record. my orginal problem was that the podcast quit working, not the plugin config stuff. also for the record, my definition of works is - it shows
uploads/test.mp3 (some greyed out thing)
if you click on the text "uploads/test.mp3" it plays
thanks for the help

Andyman,

as I wrote to the first problem poster, I need your serendipity version and the list of plugins you are using. I am quite sure it has to do with the caching of the entryproperties plugin. Try to disable that caching, make a new post and see if it works then.

Regards,
Garvin
