Contact Form Link

Post by American »

I'm new to Serendipity and am trying to learn all of the new verbage related to this project so I can use it.

I have s9y up and running with no issues. I have added the Contact form plugin along with a few others. I have searched and read docs here but for the life of my I can't figure out the Static pages or permalink plugins. I just want to get a link to the contact form on the main page.

I was in the hosting biz for years and have installed and modified a variety of PHP progs including cpgnuke and oscommerce... but this one has me baffled. You guys have created a language unto your own here.

Could someone kindly explain the process of adding a link to the main page for this plugin? Explain permalinks and the static page plugin a little better?

I'm a lost ball in the weeds....

Thanks,
Brad G

The easiest way of adding a link is with the HTML Nugget. Just use basic HTML in it.

The static pages plugin will create pages with the URL:
your domain/yourblogname/index.php?/pages/pagename.html
and you can configure the pagename when writing an entry.

The contact form will create a permalink, and again you can configure the permalink in the plugin setup.
e.g. your domain/yourblogname/index.php?/pages/contactform.html

Use those links in the HTML Nugget and everything will work fine.

That didn't work... this is for a simple project and I guess I need to do something else as I'm not up for burning alot of time trying to figure out something that isn't real intuitive.

When you create a project and develop a whole new verbage it makes it 10x times harder for a newbie to learn.. not the first time I've run into this for sure.

Thanks anyway...

You might need to use this link format:

index.php?serendipity[subpage]=contactform

You might need to replace "contactform" with the URL title you configured in the plugin, as it can be customized.

So which 'nugget' am I supposed to be using.. there are some for the head, etc.. but how about putting a link to the right side with the other links?

Garvin... sounds like you are not sure... I'm certainly not.

Why isn't there a simple 'contact' method built into sy9?

American, I am sure of course. But I don't have my magic crystal ball polished up enough to see how you configured your contactform plugin. :-D

If you send a screenshot of the config page of that plugin I can tell you the URL to use.

You can use a simple "HTML Nugget" as sidebar plugin. Not one of the event plugins.

Serendipity is a Blog, so you can contact the author by commenting on an entry. Additional features are available with that contactform plugin, and once you get the hold of it, it's powerful and easy to use. :)

I finally figured out how to make the static page link work and can click on the Contact Us link and get the form... but now I have no index page now matter what url I go to.

I just removed the Contact Form..not worth messing with.

If you tell us what you have done exactly, we could help you. Since the index page seems to have worked before, there must be some change you made that was not correct.

But without patience, there's no success - I'm sorry. :-)

I appreciate your help, I really do. This is just one of those rare times where the project doesn't dicate spending alot of time messing with trivial matters.

Typically I would bang away at it until I figured it out but it's really not a necessity.

Thanks again.

hmm I dont know but usually adding the contact form and setting up a link to it is a matter of seconds. and I´m far off from a professional user.
