linktrimmer 'backend_frontpage_display'

Post by Timbalu »

I would like to remove linktrimmer embedded presence in the 'backend_frontpage_display' hook, which is displayed by default on the Backend/frontpage.
Having it displayed there does not make any sense to me, even if preliminary was presented to have a very easy access to squeeze an url on the fly. The reason I can't imagine this is the right place for it, is that I keep asking myself, what am I are supposed to do with it there?

The linktrimmer button further displays perfectly fine on top of textareas or in wysiwyg-editor toolbars. This is the only place where it should appear, IMO. Why should anybody want to have it on the frontpage?
Regards,
Ian

Hi!

It should be an easy place where people can trim their links, without needing to go to a specific menu item entry.

You can use it completely independent from a blogentry, so that you can have http://yourblog/link/asdfsd without writing a blogentry, so that you can host your own bit.ly or whatever.

Yes - but it looks bad and ugly there. Its not like a backend sidebar link opening something specific in the main window while being empty, it actually conflicts with the extended links box, anything else which would be placed there or even every dashboard. For the Dashboard PoC - you remember - I personally found a way around, but that is not the main User Situation, isn't it?!

I think this has been caused in one of the more recent changes to that linklist. Before that was changed it looked quite alright. I personally haven't looked at it since. I am more for making it prettier theren, removing it is IMO not an option.

...recent changes
That is funny! This box is quite old and was introduced with bulletproof as far as I remember. :)

OK, I will try to find a CSS way to move it to bottom or something. But I would also like to add an option to remove it completely from frontpage (not as default). Would that be ok for you?

Hi!

The way the s9y core linklist box is emitted has changed, that's what I refer to.

Sure, no problem.
